From our discussions yesterday, some (most ?) are unregulated with minimal protection. Thus, expect further misery, but, will the Feds bail them out? but a better question "Why should they bail them out?"

I truly hope not. The reason advanced by their managers for inordinate profits and inordinate salaries/bonuses was risk = reward. Well the risk chickens have come home to roost and they have brought their cousins, the vultures.

Nebuchadnezzar's statue[^] is finally dust. My father's, Jehovah's Witness, interpretation is similar to Daniel's, except the feet, being the last world power to fall, is the US, before a new order is ushered in. "After telling the king what his dream was, Daniel then tells him what it means. Nebuchadnezzar himself, king of Babylonia, is the gold head of the statue. After Babylonia will come another empire that is of inferior quality to his, presumably represented by the chest and arms of silver. After that empire will come a third one of brass, followed in turn by the fourth empire of crushing iron, that crushes all others. This fourth empire will later be divided, however, and end up as the feet and toes that are partly clay and partly iron." Isn't the US an 'empire' divided in two?

Nope. That was Britain. North America is the half of the iron empire that stayed iron.

Very recently the US was largely divided into two very distinct political camps, coinciding with the beginning of your meltdown.

Actually, North America is divided into nine camps. If the economy gets bad enough you may see the map start looking like this[^] On the other hand, SA was definitely and legally divided into two camps until recently, juist?

Well, the thing with something like this is, you can try to interpret it any number of ways. The fact that the iron flows on, makes me lean towards interpretations where the final kingdom is derived from the previous, fully iron one. But, it's all speculation, really.
