He may be back as Dato in a few minutes then... It takes a bit to log in again. Hopefully he'll take his medication before switching identities.

Unlike Dato, twats have a use. One I rather like, I might add, though it's been so long I forget which one gets tied up. BTW - How are you doing with the cold? I hear it's minus 20-something up there. Brrrr.... I thought 27°F was bad enough yesterday. X|

Not too awful - It was that high a few days ago here. But we now have a week of rain in store and it's keeping things down a bit. I spent the weekend in Golden Valley, AZ where they have some altitude and was surprised how cold it got, and how fast. It seems 15 years away from the mountains has thinned my blood or something. I used to shovel the driveway armed with nothing but a pair of shorts and a bottle of tequila. Brrrr.... No way I could do that today.

Really cold here, too. The highs were in the upper 40s and there was snow on Mt Hamilton and a few of the other higher hills.

That;s one of the reasons we reproduce - so our sons can take over shoveling and mowing the lawn while we give the tequila the attention it deserved and never got while we were holding implements in our hands.

I think CP should add user definable filtering. I should be able to say 'never show me posts by that deluded tosser, Dato, again'. And, once you have the functionality built in, admins can add people to it by default. that would be cool. He'd be posting and no-one would ever see his posts, and he'd have no idea why no-one ever replied.

StupidFilter. That's fascinating. That site leads to a Wikipedia article about "Eternal September[^]". That article, in and of itself, is quite amazing. It's a form of virtual experiment that seems to demonstrate that a lack of enculturation results in anarchy andstupidity. An absence of social taboos almost grants idiocy free reign. Wow. I think that idea is applicable in a broad sense.

I remember the period well. There were AOLers who thought that Usenet was a service provided by and under the control of AOL. In one famous case, an AOLer was flamed and responded by threatening to report the flamer to Steve Case. However, they were slowly but surely becoming acclimatized to the wild and woolly world of Usenet, last I looked. However, I do not remember Usenet, ever, being anything but anarchic and often quite rough. alt.flame and it's many offspring - 1005 according to my newsreader - were celebrated for cruelty and insults. The days when it might have been a gentile and orderly environment disappeared when students were offered access to something that only professors had been using. When ads started appearing in newsgroups [^](April 12, 1994) the end was in sight and as modem speeds picked up and binaries of porn, much of it perverted, began being shared via groups devoted to that purpose, Usenet became an unhealthy place to vist.

Well, if I'm right, it's CSS.

Jon, I'm not sure it could be him. This Dato person has apparently been a member since March 02 and in a Nov 02 posting comments he has 6 years programming experience. I rather suspect that it is not CSS as CSS, I feel, is probably not old enough - late teens/early 20's ? But then, its hard to tell. :~

But this assumes that he's telling the truth. Something I have never felt was high on Heinze's list of priorities.
