Anybody else besides me have family members that have bought into the fear of the world ending in 2012? It's to the point that I just don't want to even know them anymore :). Also, anybody think this will be worse than Y2K paranoia? Maybe it's time to start a generator and dried foods company.

The way it was told to me was: The generation we are living in will not pass away before 'The End'. 'This generation' started at the end of the Gentile times which was figured at 1914. So, 'The End' will arrive between now and 2014. :)

I bet you'd be able to convince them very quickly that they don't actually buy any of it at all. Just write up a little something that says they irrevocably agree to transfer all of their worldly possessions/wealth/etc... to you on January 1st, 2013 in exchange for $1000 today. They won't sign it, because they don't actually buy it either :)

If there is a major earthquake in LA in 2010, I might start to wonder.

Actually, I'm pretty sure the world will end in about 3 to 3.5 billion years from now during the suns red dwarf phase when it expands far enough to swallow us up. I would suspect that humans will have gone extinct or evolved into something completely different around 3.49 billion years before that happens though.

Wow - really ? Great - that will be awaiting me when I get home. Is this a Mayan calendar type thing ?
