So basically you're saying that the government should attach no strings whatsoever to the use of the billions of dollars these street beggars have taken? These companies took that money with full knowledge that it would give the government control over how it was used. If they don't like it, then they are free to give the money back.

not at all, I'm saying the government should have made those terms of the original deal instead of coming back after the fact and saying, "geez, I fucked up and want a do over".

Dead wrong. If I remember correctly these monies were in exchange for preferred stock, specifically. Perferred stock carries no voting rights.

Mike - typical white guy. The USA does have universal healthcare, but you have to pay for it. D'oh. Thomas Mann - "Tolerance becomes a crime when applied to evil." The NYT - my leftist brochure. Calling an illegal alien an “undocumented immigrant” is like calling a drug dealer an “unlicensed pharmacist”. God doesn't believe in atheists, therefore they don't exist.

there you go, let us construct an agreement after the fact. I have a few of my own I'd like to reconstruct.

We're not talking about a private investment or loan, we're talking about taxpayers' money. That carries with it de facto restrictions on use, including the risk that the government will step in later and tell you how you may and may not use it. When you make a deal with Lord Vader, you don't get the right to complain when he "alters" it.

This is a tough call. It seems to me that getting the government to force people who didn't want to buy your lousy products in the first place, or who acatually lost money on your insane business practices, to give billions of dollars to your company anyway deserve's a bonus of some kind. Thats some damn good management right there, now. I mean, hell, I'd just as soon the business guys get it as the politicians. What possibly difference should it make to me?

Chaining ourselves to the moral high ground does not make us good guys. Aside from making us easy targets, it merely makes us idiotic prisoners of our own self loathing.

It's their company (USSA's), they own it, they can do what ever they want. In order to make it more consistent though, they should apply the same laws as federal employees which I believe that no bonus can be more than 3% of base pay. After a fashion they are federal employees.

So you don't mind transferring money from your pocket (tax dollars) to executive bonuses for those whose companies are needing to beg from the government? If these were merely companies (public or private) deciding how to spend their profits or capital, I would agree that they answer only to the owners (shareholders), but when you have had to beg billions from the taxpayers, maybe not.
