Just another example of the wisdom of making sure you don't overpay. Better to break even or owe a little than to end up being cheated "delayed". Think the PRC will ever realize they're electing idiots?

Pretty much my standard policy for the last 15 years. One of the things that can be interesting is making sure that you never have to give them an underpayment penalty, but can always expect to send them a small check.

Same. I like to ride that razor's edge. We've found a really good accountant that helps keep us there. Our last accountant screwed up a few years back and we got an 8K refund; a lot of people would welcome this but I was pissed off that it didn't come with interest :)

In follow up to Jon's thread: Interesting that this link post gets decent discussion, yet that's one of the things cited as faulty with Illion. And, no I don't like him. I've been called intellectually dishonest as well as a fool as well as.... oh forget it.

mean you can skimp out on the content! Are you in California? Do you just dislike the Schwartz? I think the children in the state budget committee need to fcking grow up, since this has been going on for more than a year now. They say it themselves, the hard working people are going to suffer for this, and I guarantee it won't be any of the people on that committee suffering!

Many of us (maybe even you?) have done a link post or two. The difference is that we are perfectly willing to enter into the discussion and do not simply call everyone who espouses a different point of view than the writer of the post an *idiot.* Troy's been given many, many chances to play it straight. Christian has (cybernetically) gotten down on his knees and begged Ilion to respond as an adult instead of retreating behind terms like "kiddies." Even I, a year ago, used to try to engage him on a subject. He always ended up calling me names like a fourth grader at recess. After awhile, you remember "Fool me once - shame on you; fool me twice - shame on me."

I don't disagree. I think this is a power thing going on. California ranks as the 8th biggest economy in the world, and it's a damn shame. 2 cents.

Assemblyman Ted Gaines, R-Roseville, was especially upset over the lack of state tax rebates.
"That is unacceptable," Gaines said. "This is an issue of fairness. It hurts hardworking families the most. Refunds, in fact, will stimulate the economy, and taxpayers need their money."

If he and his colleagues really gave a damn then they would have done their job and balanced the budget by now.

Balance the budget? The Republicans in the assembly balk at even passing a budget.

I think Cali-forn-ia has gone over the edge. They have a high illegal immigrant population who vote (like they do in the homeland) and a lot of unflappable socialists around San Francisco. I don't think they can bring this around, they are doomed. But then (in the New York analogy) for every Koch there is a Giuliani. What would flip California is if the DNC so outraged the Hispanic/Catholic population that they were compelled to throw them out... say like the "porkulas" bill with it's family planning/abortion social addendums that many of that population (and my self included) find intolerable. 2 cents.

Your voting systems always amaze me. How can an illegal immigrant vote? Do you just walk up to the polling station and say, "I'm a citizen and I haven't voted yet.", and they give you a ballot?

I think we need a good house cleaning in Sacramento. Start recall election proceedings on Arnie and the whole assembly.

As has been pointed out, we're the eight largest economy in the world. It doesn't take much financial planning know what you need to spend every year and there are going to be ups and downs in revenue. Aside from Stan calling me a wild eyed Marxist, I'm actually a fiscal conservative. I believe most things should be paid for out of pocket. The problem is not so much lack of money but how it's spent. The assembly has ignored the bugetary problem for years and since we have spending laws that guarantee certain segments of the government a fixed or minimum percentage of the budget, we're getting to where we're guaranteed to spend over 100% of what is allocated and necessary things have gotten squeezed. Whether we need a bailout in the short term, I don't know, but if things don't change soon, it's going to get pretty ugly for those who actually depend on the state government. It's time we send a clear message to Sacramento that we want fiscal reform just like we did with Prop 13 in the 70s.

Thank Grover Norquist. He's convinced the republicans to filibuster any budget attempt. And now the people of California are paying for it. Of course he doesn't even live there. Idealists...

I don't object to the link posts. I object to using that as a reason for censoring Ildiot.

Yep. I agree with the sentiment. We should just leave the link post concept alone. Red herring maybe.
