She's right about one thing. It won't be the Fairness Doctrine coming back. That contributed directly to the ability of Ross Perot to challenge the stranglehold the two parties have on our election process. Instead of the idea being that your media couldn't tilt totally in either direction - which was all the Fairness Doctrine ever required - we'll end up with some carefully calculated, i-dotted, t-crossed bureaucratic formula designed to make sure that talk radio goes at least 40% liberal while exempting NPR cause they're quasi-governmental and all TV stations cause they already own NBC-Universal.

Which will kill talk radio. No radio station is going to broadcast content that no one wants to listen to. And if anyone actually wanted to listen to liberal talk, no change would be necessary. No one wants to listen to someone telling them that they suck. It will simply get rid of all talk and go back to playing music.

Chaining ourselves to the moral high ground does not make us good guys. Aside from making us easy targets, it merely makes us idiotic prisoners of our own self loathing.

Pretty much the goal, I would guess.

Orders will be issued soon outlining those subjects appropriate for discussion. but for now, we should balance the liberal media print and mainstream networks with good shit to listen to.[^]

Mike - typical white guy. The USA does have universal healthcare, but you have to pay for it. D'oh. Thomas Mann - "Tolerance becomes a crime when applied to evil." The NYT - my leftist brochure. Calling an illegal alien an “undocumented immigrant” is like calling a drug dealer an “unlicensed pharmacist”. "Although Obama has been publicly opposed to reinstating the fairness doctrine, conservative radio has talked nonstop about the fear of it returning" So right-wing radio will behave like hysterical 13 year old girls at the drop of a hat. I already knew that, but thanks for the reminder.

Push back against what? The non-existent legislation that has not been wending it's way through Congress for the past 20 years? One could easily describe that as an exercise in the politics of fear. Or the hysterical theatrics of a 13 year old girl.

none yet, as you could tell if you'd read the article but according to the Senator, SENATOR DEBBIE STABENOW (D-MI): I think it’s absolutely time to pass a standard. Now, whether it’s called the Fairness Standard, whether it’s called something else — I absolutely think it’s time to be bringing accountability to the airwaves. I mean, our new president has talked rightly about accountability and transparency. You know, that we all have to step up and be responsible. And, I think in this case, there needs to be some accountability and standards put in place. it isn't that far away. So, you'd either agree that conservative talk radio be muzzled or at a minimum wait until legislation is in effect before doing anything?

You mean like the crap that Obama has been putting out on the economy every day this week? The "approve my $10,000 a tax payer spending orgy or we'll end up in an irreversible depression (and it'll be your fault)" politics of fear? That stuff? The only thing that has changed is which party of idiots and tax cheats has the most votes.

Really? No legislation, and a single senator talks about it - and the president opposes it, and you think it's right around the corner? Sounds like fear talking to me.

What legislation? One might choose to wait until there is actually something on the table to oppose. I do understand how it is much easier to manufacture scary scenarios when you are not limited by actual proposals.
