Stimulus survey[^] Looks like the majority people would like the stimulus plan to spend less and include more tax cuts. This doesn't sound much like the actual bill they are going to pass. of the people, by the people, for the people, ignoring the people.....

I would like it to remove the H1-b visa program.

Don't really think you can reasonably draw that conclusion. Here's another poll[^] that suggests that the people approve of the President's and the congressional Democrats efforts to pass the stimulus and strongly disapprove of the Republicans.

Cuts for whom? How do you stimulate the economy by spending less... Put the money into our failing bridges and infrastructure == more jobs Put the money into our failing education system == more jobs and maybe we can compete intelligently again Put the money into wages and you'll see the economy stimulate. Wages drive an economy. People need money before they can spend it. Tax cuts for those at the top will result in more speculation. What else would you do with that money? Not hire more people, that requires demand and there isn't any demand if people can't make a wage. But, the right will continue to beat the drum of a dead ideal. The Two Santa theory and Supply side economics in general are dead ideals. If you need more evidence look at Iceland. Milton unimpeaded... now let the one-votes and flames continue.

You can't spend what you didn't TAKE. Either from this generation or the next.

Yes but these are more jobs eventually. These projects may need to be done but they are hardly stimulus. For me the idea of stimulus is to give the economy a shot in the arm now. Jobs created later this year or in years to come don't help the economy much now. However, if you cut my taxes now and I've got enough to buy a jetski.

Agreed, so if we tax less of their wages in the first place. Everybody wins. More money to go around.

Or maybe introduce legislation so that companies after H1-bs have to prove they tried to recruit domestically first? Seems reasonable and they aren't discriminating against people who have already immigrated.

So why is only about 18% of this great bill putting money there?

We already spend more per student than any other industrialized nation except Norway. That might suggest that money is not the problem with our educational system...

The minimum wage was raised twice in the 4 years that preceded this current economic mess, so what is the real evidence for your assertion? What is the difference between raising pay and reducing taxes, other than that the government doesn't get to handle the money in the middle...(thrakazog did not say tax cuts at the top BTW, that was your editorial addition, he said tax cuts in general)

Of course i'd want my tax return to be huge. but I think infrastructure spending is the right idea. Individual vs group mentality going on here.

That requirement is already there. Unfortunately, that is part of the fraud. Ever called a company about the perfect opportunity and then realized that not only was there pay low, it was far below even the lowest programmers expectation? This is one of the steps they take to justify that there is not an American counterpart available to hire. "We can't afford" is not the same thing as, "There isn't enough" Just last week I was talking to a company I would love to actually work for. And then they stated what they were looking to pay. I barely managed to keep professional decorum on the phone. Also, remember, H1-b is not an immigration visa it is a temporary worker visa which is different. Immigrants would get a different visa.

A beautiful idea. I'd applaud the ObamaMessiah for doing that and only that twhere infrastructure = brides, interstate road system (needed for defense anyway), sewers, water / gas delivery piplelines, electric grid (if we ever get to universal acceptance of electric autos we don't have the capacity for everyone to recharge).

I don't oppose tax cuts for the poor and middle class. But I don't think those are the ones being referred to by the right. Those would be business tax cuts. Economists on both sides agree that there has to be spending for the economy to rebound. So why not spend that on infrastructure creating jobs at the same time and improving our homeland? And this would be much more quantifiable than just handing over 800 billion to bankers. Our culture is failing. We are losing our competitive edge. What is it that we manufacture and offer up to the world economically?

                                      This statement is false
