I just read an article[^] in Spiegel (a german newspaper) about the US view of the German politics towards Iraq. Well there will be parliament elections in Germany this month. And then I read that the former US ambassador in Bonn said (roughly translated): "A change of government in Germany would be appreciated in Washington. And for your country it would be the best thing, too". What the f***? Who do these people think they are? That's always the same. The americans don't let people judge what they think is best for them. No, we are americans we know what's best for your, just relax we take care of it. :wtf: What kind of focking statement is this? He's not a man from the street's after all?!? Oh I forgot he's a citizen of the great US of A. Now that justifies everything... Cheers ?? Martin PS: Please excuse my exaggeration I just had to get this off my chest. "Situation normal - all fu***d up" Illuminatus!
Lighten up... if that guy was a former ambassador, my bet is that he was probably removed because of incompetence (a trait which he clearly shows). Perhaps the current government had something to do with it and he just wants to get back at them? :) Either way, he's a loser and can easily be ignored. I've had a fair share of ignorant americans, but I've also had the pleasure of meeting really nice americans too. I bet I could easily find two dickheads out of ten germans, just as easy you could find two dickheads out of ten swedes. This ambasador just happened to be one out of the two out of the ten. ;) Preferred storyline: - I am your father. Search your feelings and you'll know it's the truth. Together we can rule this galaxy like father and son. - Ok dad. Let's kick some butt!

This reminds me of something I read the paper a couple of days ago, basically it was along the lines of Nelson Mandela being critical of the US for wanting to go after Saddam/Irag. A journalist made a comment like "Who are you to be telling us what we should/should not do?" I have exactly same sentiment towards the US, "Just who the hell do you think you are, telling the rest of the world what's best?"

Now, I must admit I've had my head pretty buried in the studies lately so I haven't been up to par on the whole situation. But I think I'd follow Nelson Mandela blind before I would our government. I say Pres. Bush, if you read this, listen to Mandela; he is a very wise and proven man. ~ that's just my two cent's ... back to the books... I've read dozens (maybe hundreds) of non-Americans making derogatory comments about the American government here in the CP forums. I've read many, many similar comments by non-Americans in the world's media. I've read/heard dozens of foreign ambassadors, ministers, etc... complain about US leaders or policies. Give us a break and stop being childish. The German government is the same as all the rest and can certainly stand-up to a few silly comments by a former ambassador. Remember, in the western world there is a little thing called free speech. Sheesh!! Martin Häsemeyer wrote: Oh I forgot he's a citizen of the great US of A. Now that justifies everything... Nice attitude. You might want to talk to a mental health professional about that big chip on your shoulder. [EDIT] Oh and one more thing, every four years we have a presidential election in the US and every four years the world's leaders, ambassadors, ministers and media weighs in with their opinion about the candidates and which might be best for their particular desires. Sounds like a liberal democrat - they always sound like that. They're smarter than the rest of us and know better than we how to run our lives, so they do their utmost to steal all the earnings we have to pay themselves to pass laws that make it impossible to live. After all, they know best... Pay them no mind - although they have control of the government, they don't speak for anyone here but the very stupid and helpless. With luck, they won't breed and pass on their mental defects to another generation. Then we can all get back to running our own lives and coutries. Patience, Grasshopper... My problem was the thing that he said "it would be best for your country, too." Well just forget it. Mike Mullikin wrote: Remember, in the western world there is a little thing called free speech. Chris Losinger wrote: for the same reason i don't tell my friend "hey, your wife is kindof a bitch - surely you can do better?" I think you (and Martin) are making a mountain out of a mole hill. This wasn't an official US opinion given by our executive, judicial or legislative branch of government to the German people or it's government. It was an "off the cuff" remark by a "former" ambassador made to the press. Nothing more. To use your analogy - it would be like you making a casual comment to an acquaintance that you think an old friend could do better than his current girlfriend. Maybe not the most classy thing to say, but not something to get bent out of shape about.

Martin Häsemeyer wrote: My problem was the thing that he said "it would be best for your country, too." If you don't agree with him, just ignore him. Sheesh! Let's do a little experiment. Buy a local newspaper in your home town. Look at the editorial section for editorials about the US and Iraq and the on going conflict. I'll bet there is at least one (probably more) where the German author gives his/her opinion about what is happening and what should happen. Why is this any different? Martin Häsemeyer wrote: Ah, well there might be something like political correctness a diplomat might adhere to. FORMER diplomat. He is just an ordinary person like you and I. His opinions mean no more than yours or mine. In fact, as a former scum-bag politician I would rate his opinions as significantly less important than yours or mine. Considering the comments concerned the German government I'd say that your opinions are the ONLY ones that really matter. Martin Häsemeyer wrote: Sorry that I simply don't understand the thing with the chip The phrase "a chip on your shoulder" means that you already have a problem with the US or hold a grudge against the US. Your comment "Oh I forgot he's a citizen of the great US of A. Now that justifies everything..." tells me that you have a negative predisposition about the US. That's fine, I really don't care personally. It's your choice. I just find these things to be unhealthy and suggested you talk to someone about it.
