President Obama took himself out to Columbus Ohio today (at the cost of umpty-ump gallons of jet fuel) to make a speech in front of 25 police cadets who were graduating. He rightly pointed out that without the almost-trillion dollar stimulus package these cadets - who'd been laid off just before graduation in January - would be unemployed rather than preparing to make our streets safer. So. He saved 25 jobs. :-D The Government back in Washington (but not Obama, he was 1,000 miles away) also announced that we lost lost 651,000 job in February. That's 2,325 every day or 25 jobs every 16 minutes, day in and day out no time off, no coffee breaks and no sack time. Or, to put it another way, The workers in the US will be bringing in $1,9530,000,000 less next year (assuming the average laid-off worker makes 30K @ year.) And the kicker? The million and change Columbus got to put these 25 guys on the street runs out at the end of the year. There won't be any police training conducted by Columbus between now and then because they don't have any money to pay the instructors or the students. And next year, unless the economy has gotten a lot better, those 25 guys will be fired. Anyone think that Obama will fly out to Columbus next winter to watch the pink slips being handed?

If you read the details on the unemployment free money too , where state would have to maintain the additional benefits after accepting the initial money, some of those Governors are so crazy after all. Don't have a link because I was reading a real newspaper, but the AP has a in depth story out there today.

Don't have to. I live in South Carolina and Govenor Sanford is one of those not willing to adopt the cut little tribble. It's a shame because there are real people out of work, and the states really could use some help paying benefits, but Congress had to get cute and tell the states what to do and how to do it, like Pelosi knows shit from a shingle when it comes to actually being responsible for the wellbeing of citizens.

Perhaps she don't need to when you can delegate so much elsewhere. This way, she can also pass the buck if it were not to work as envisaged.

I haven't seen your detailed plan to rebuild the economy yet. Care to share it with us? PDF format preferably for the text, but I'd prefer XLS or CSV for the financials so I can cross-check the numbers. Thanks.

Blaming subordinates for bad advice didn't cut it for Bush, and shouldn't cut it for Pelosi. Leaders should be held responsible for the advisers they choose to trust.

here it is Ed: dear government, "get the fuck out of the way". The "central" government is the reason for the hole we're in to begin with, (thanks to: unfunded mandates at the state level, congressional pressure to permit people to buy homes they couldn't afford, and everyone's personal favorite the War in Iraq) and the Magic Negro is doing nothing other than digging it deeper.

Mike - typical white guy. The USA does have universal healthcare, but you have to pay for it. D'oh. Thomas Mann - "Tolerance becomes a crime when applied to evil." The NYT - my leftist brochure. Calling an illegal alien an “undocumented immigrant” is like calling a drug dealer an “unlicensed pharmacist”. God doesn't believe in atheists, therefore they don't exist.

It's easy for you Limbaughians to criticize President Obama's plan but you have nothing of substance to offer the debate. If you believe that tax cuts are appropriate, then you should applaud the tax cut portion of the Recovery Act, as it is the largest tax cut in the history of the United States. If you think small businesses and the jobs they create are appropriate, then you should applaud the credits, tax cuts, and hiring incentives in the Act. If you support Veterans, then you should applaud the funding for VA medical and education benefits in the Act. If you just want to be a naysayer without presenting a credible plan of your own, you have no standing and have made it obvious you are just another Limbaughian howling in the desert. Here in America we allow free speech, so you are allowed yours. Have fun.

Apparently what is easy is for you to convince yourself that no-one can criticise Obama without being tarred as a dittohead. For your information I have never listened to Limbaugh on the radio, have only seen brief excerpts of his show when broadcast on TV, have referred to him disparagingly in this very forum many times, and consider him a Neaderthal. None of the above means that I have to worship at the altar of Reid, Pelosi and Obama. I found those two congress critters to be corrupt, kneejerk - ephasis on the jerk - liberals a long time ago. More and more I am discovering that Obama while probably not corrupt, is behaving pretty much as a socialist would, were he elected to the highest office in the land. Indeed, his lack of corruption begins to worry me. At least Reid and Pelosi could be bought off at times. As for you, I saw no reason to read the rest of your post after you began by insulting me and haven't. When, if, you wish to act in a more mature manner and want to seriously discuss Obama's plans for America, feel free to contact me on a different thread. I would consider it a personal favor if you didn't waste time or bandwidth responding to my posts unless you have decided to act like a grownup and eschew the name-calling.

I retired here - was raised in New England and spent much of my life in that area.
