My money is on 0 (except for my 401k money, of course. But than retirement isn't all its cracked up to be anyway. :(( )

Chaining ourselves to the moral high ground does not make us good guys. Aside from making us easy targets, it merely makes us idiotic prisoners of our own self loathing.

        oh, yes it is.

Mike - typical white guy. The USA does have universal healthcare, but you have to pay for it. D'oh. Thomas Mann - "Tolerance becomes a crime when applied to evil." The NYT - my leftist brochure. Calling an illegal alien an “undocumented immigrant” is like calling a drug dealer an “unlicensed pharmacist”. God doesn't believe in atheists, therefore they don't exist.

would have been a good idea, but not totally so, no. actually my funds are in a good mix of money market, CDs, bond funds and sme equity. most of this is really for my wife. she's 13 years younger and still working. I rely n Social Security and a pension for fun money, she maks a 6 figure income so most of what I have set aside is for her - she'll out live me by a lot and my goal was t make sure she never has to worry. along those I took the lower pension option, which continues through as long as he lives. oh, our home is paid for a well, so few worries other than health.

I think I'm not made for retirement ... which may be a good thing, as it looks like none of us will ever be able to retire again.

Get back to us in a couple of years on that. But, perhaps it's a money issue. When I was "retired" (that is, simply not working and getting but on money I had set aside) for 2.5 years a few years ago, I both liked it (ah! I don't have to contend with the corporate/bureaucratic stupidity!) and hated it (it was boring in the long run). Perhaps part of the reason I didn't enjoy it is that it was not and could not be an actual retirement, since didn't have the money for that. Once again, I'm not working, as of the middle of December. I don't hate it yet, and now that the weather is starting to turn for the better, I'll be able to do the work on my house that needs to be done ... except, of course, that I'll be afraid to spend money, since I have no income.

oh, I will. several key points here. the first is I have an adequate income and will only need to dip into retirement funds if some disaster hits or I fall in love with a series of bit ticket items, second I have a still working wife so I've upped my share of the house work, third my home is paid for - no mortgage, fourth I'm developing other interests to keep my mind active.
