Best bet is to read Chris Maunder's blog. the (too) short answer is that the system was hacked so that many people's messages were being "automatically deleted," even though they had ratings of 4 or 5. Chris originally believed that it wasn't the system, that we'd all just gone crazy and so he shut Soapbox down. When he realised what had happened he, decided that this was as good a time as any to isolate the regs who did nothing but talk about "US Politics, Religion and Global Warming." He has done so while eliminating the voting mechanism altogether in this forum. He changed the name to Backroom and create an new soapbox where, the last time I looked, people were happily voting each other down and voting to delete messages. On the whole, my opinion is that this has made for a more respectful Soapbox/Back Room and elevated the discussions to a more cerebral plane. But your mileage may vary on that.

I am very confused, whats going on? So this is now the Soapbox? Why there isnt any link in the homepage? What happened that cause all this change and why the forum was restored after being removed.

I'm not Oakman. That said, I suspect site owners disagreed with most opinion in soapbox, and was a little anxious about cross refereances with heated rhetoric to site advertisements on search sites. 2 cents.

Oakman's post is inaccurate: the system was not hacked, and his take on Chris' psychology is probably wrong. AND, importantly and amusingly (since he himself had done so much to make the old 'Sandbox' what it had become), his take on the "Backroom" now being a more elevated place than "Soapbox 2.0" is just as I said it would be -- the *reason* the old 'Sandbox' was such a pit is precisely because of the voting system, it encouraged very childish behavior, there was no cost to those who chose to behave childishly, and so some did not resist the temptation to behave childishly.

Certainly I can. Moreover, the accusation would not be false.
