Eeek. As I predicted, the countries that supply the west with electronics will be hardest hit. However their balance of trade has gone back in the black. Which means the Japanese consumer is buying even less from abroad. Shouldnt laugh really, but having had our noses rubbed in it for decades by the asian tigers its ammusing to see them so completely screwed.

And when this crisis is over, whose electronics industries will be the stronger? EU, Russia, USA, or the Asians? Any predictions?

When you depend on exports you start hurting when your target markets evaporate and no longer functions too well. This is apparently causing a 12% contraction in the Japanese economy. And a third Japan government stimulus worth a reported 20 Trillion Yen under consideration, it will be a very long time before Japan returns to being the world giant it once was. And in terms of electronics, that is almost exclusively Chinese these days and I don't see that changing soon. Trust you had not too many problems finding our new hovel.

Yep. Any company that built its economy on supplying electronic toys to the west is wholy gefucked right now.

That was fear-mongering hype for the purpose of trying to frighten us into subsidizing the auto unions. And, Japan's population is currently collapsing, so it's unlikely that they'll live up to the old hype.

Yes, I can see some of the similarities with what was then British Leyland during Premier Thatcher's time.

Well, the term Asian tigers was generally used to refer to HK, SG, SK, and Taiwan - not Japan. Also, I was under the impression most electronics (even the ones sold in India) are Chinese made. China may yet get royally screwed, but aren't they buying up a lot of US treasuries?

                    Cheers, Vıkram.

Yes. Alot of manuf moved out of Japan to SK to reduce costs, but, as can be witnessed by the reduciton of some 46 odd % in Japanese exports they are being hit hard as well as China. Aparently CHina has 20 million more unemplyed this year. 20 million. Holy crap. Thats a lot of people without any money coming in back on their parents farms with nowt to do.

Deal - you don't get pedantic on GW, and I'll let this slide, OK? ;P 20 MILLION more unemployed? :wtf: Although, I'd like to see how many were retrenched, as opposed to unworthy graduating students who couldn't find a job. Ho hum, that's one of the downsides of being a one-trick pony, I suppose.

Economies are rearranging and reordering themselves. It's unclear if the West will be as big a participant in global affairs going forward, of course especially the US. The damndest thing is this may be the objective of several "western" governments, I'm not sure I would bust on Asia just yet, we may be carring their water in the months to come.
