Anybody seen any real data on savings rates?

Has anybody seen any real data on the savings rates of the US population? I've seen the aggregate computational numbers published but, I am curious about the real data and if it exists. Personally, I'd like to see something close to the raw numbers just to look at the distribution. I am wondering how many modes and the size of them that can be found in the distribution. I can imagine that there are at least three groups; savers, spenders and, over-spenders.

Don't believe the 'weighted' aggregate stats?
It not a question of belief for me. More of a curiosity about the whole picture. It could be that the calculation used and recently modified by the Bush administration could be spot on. Or, it could be weighted to a positive result. In the end, I am just curious about the data behind a number that is being used to label a large swath of our population.

Nice man. I'll take a look. At first glance it looks like the just the calculated savings rate. I am more interested in the raw data. I'll follow the links to see if I can find what I am after.

No problem!. But the raw data - I don't think you can get that. The St. Louis Fed keeps that internal. I'd love to have it myself... This[^] may contain an explanation. I'd have to ask one of my economics buddies for details on how they actually do the calculation.

I tried my Wharton account. No such luck on getting the data. Sorry Chris.
