I just said this in the lounge, but I'll say it here too. Vista is a pile of crap.

Now I have to work on a project which converts given flat files to XML using the XML serialization method" - SK64 ( but the forums have stuff like this posted every day )

I hadn't noticed. But then, I've never once used it; my only experience with Vista was a few minutes of looking at a computer at a store.

Yep, sure is. Win7 is much better though.

I think you have run into an incredible synergy of Vista and .net suckage. I pretty much abandoned .net development in '06 so I am glad that I am missing out on the IDE and framework upgrade cycle.

No major issues on my mac, but on my girlfriend's HP, the battery meter likes to disappear which is very irritating. Just hibernates with no warnings as a result...

I installed Vista Ultimate 64 bit on my new machine last month. Due to a hardware configuration issue it faulted (BSOD) three times on install. Once it restarted it carried on without issue and installed successfully. I needed to connect it to a shared printer on an XP machine. I installed the 64 bit drivers. It found the printer and printed. I needed to attach to shared network storage. It found the drives hanging off the XP box and mounted the network drives. I needed to run VS 2005. It installed. It ran. .... Not one issue, nada. Everything just works. Am I that special?

Nope; mine works brilliantly. If I didn't know better, I would say that people are regurgitating and reciting the same old arguments again and again, then getting offended when shown that they're incorrect. Fortunately the media is never like that is it? </sarcasm>

I have the magic "fred_" version that works faster and better than any previous Windows version. With all the whine in here, I'm going to invest in a chesse store and sell pirated copies
