Some of you know I have a friend who is GM for a Honda Dealership., She just wrote me: "The car business in April is better. We have already delivered 38 new cars and 17 used cars. In the last two days we sold an additional 20 new cars. Life is good" When she says business is looking up, I believe her a lot more than when a talking head on TV reads tea-leaves.

My wife and I just picked out a new car for her yesterday. The salesman said they had just had a great week.

Chaining ourselves to the moral high ground does not make us good guys. Aside from making us easy targets, it merely makes us idiotic prisoners of our own self loathing.

Did all of the dealerships in your area survive? We've lost 3 - 4.

I'm not aware of any that failed. In fact, a toyota dealership down the road a few miles has nearly doubled in size. This part of Indiana has not been impacted much by the national economy.

We lost the Chevrolet and Suzuki dealerships. I think the Chevrolet dealership is about to reopen under a new owner (Landers-Mclarty...think Mack Mclarty, Clinton Chief of Staff).

A number of them went under. One was new and never got the doors open. One of the Chevrolet dealers in SF went under and they were old enough to have sponsored The Dinah Shore Show.
