Greenspun's Tenth Rule of Programming: "Any sufficiently complicated C or Fortran program contains an ad-hoc, informally-specified bug-ridden slow implementation of half of Common Lisp."
Considering that every thing in the article is something the U.S. *should* be concerned about - we should be planning for world domination. If not us, who would you prefer? Somebody is going to get it. I just wish that Bush, you and the guy who wrote the article were intelligent enough to understand that. BTW, the only reason Cheney is Vice-president is so that that Jeb Bush will not have any serious competition when it is his turn to run for president. There is nothing more nefarious about Cheney's position than that (although I suppose that is bad enough). I'm not a real reverend, I just play one on CP.

There are bound to be studies and strategy documents (would you trust a goverment that didn't bother wit hthem ?) but I suspect the Sunday Herald may have been a little 'creative' :suss: Elaine (ever so slightly cynical tigress) Would you like to meet my teddy bear ?

Cheney is in a spot ideally suited to his experience. He did an excellent job as SecDef years ago; I even forgive him for putting an end to my career:-)

No in all cases. -c

I agree completely that he is ideally suited for the position. But that is not why he was selected. He does, in fact, minimize the threat to Jeb's presidential hopes. A younger, more dynamic person would be someone Jeb would have to contend with in his inevitable presidential bid. Cheney isn't. I'm not a real reverend, I just play one on CP.

No in all cases. What do you mean? I am totally opposed to our current war on terror or any such war. I have been very disappointed in Bush's tactics thus far. There is only one kind of war - a face to face confrontation with a country's military force, the outright distruction of that force, and the capture of the enemy's center of government. *That* is what I'm for. Obviously, you cannot stop terror. You can, however, minimize the organizational capacity of those who use terror for a broader political agenda. Screw the terrorists -destroy the governments that allow them to exist. If there is a peaceful means of achieving that - fine. If some alternative foreign policy on our part towards the Middleeast would make people there friendly enough toward us that they would of their own accord deal with the terrorist in their midst, I would happily support that. I just don't believe that their is anything we can do in that regard to accomplish it. I believe that there are governments other than our own plotting for world domination and I think the Islamic political/religious community believes that they have a legitimate chance to achieve that - hence bin Ladin and 9/11. And here I had been thinking that you were an intelligent kid... Imagine my disappointment:(( I'm not a real reverend, I just play one on CP.
Well, of course I am (hopefully) exaggerating about "eventually the world," but "By extending the definition of 'terrorism' and using the 9/11-incited patriotic fervor, the U.S. will expand its military dominion" is my definite opinion, I'm afraid. The comment about "shadow government" (note the quotes) was simply because every time I say "Bush wants to do this" or whatever, I realize he's not intelligent enough and that it's really Cheney/his advisors/etc. Those are the only real un-intelligent things I think I may have said there... And the gulf definitely seems to be the administration's goal, IMO because of the oil, and of course to finish what pappy started. I can see Afghanistan, sure. Iraq, only because they're close to having nukes and they have a reason to use them. But beyond that? No. It's not our job to go an install a "regimine change" wherever we disagree with the ethics or politics of this or that petty dictator, or say that's our reason to the citizens but really just invade for their oil. And of course I hope you're not implying that different political opinions make for lack of intelligence, right? ... Finally, a relief from the stupid people around me! An intelligent conversation! :omg:
