People who demand "prove it" (whether passive-aggressively[^] or directly[^]) almost never want proof nor will attend to any offered. For instance, what Fisticuffs literally said is, for once, literally correct:

    Fisticuffs wrote[^]:

it's not anyone's job to prove you wrong, it's your job to demonstrate your claims

But, does anyone *really* think that Fisticuffs would admit to the truth of CSS's feverish conspiracy theory could CSS offer proof? No, we all realize that Fisticuffs would simply move the goalposts. Or, to offer a perhaps better metaphor, he would simply adjust the flaming hoop through which he demands CSS jump.

Do you suspect they are any less open to your arguments than you are to theirs?

First you co-opt my (and Shog's) meme of changing the titles of our threads for literary effect. Then you nab my accusation against Stan almost verbatim about moving goalposts. Is there anything about me you don't aspire to be?

There certainly are a few posters who cannot admit they are wrong, no matter how much evidence is presented to them. The most egregious case of this, to my mind, was you copying an idiotic treatise on how to handle a heart attack by coughing and posting it here. Even when presented by quotes from the Surgeon-General and from Snopes debunking your post as another one of those pesky viral emails that infest the web, you continued to defend not only your posting of it, but the highly dangerous technique your post had recommended.

Wow, and here I've been witnessing this for years amongst the various forums I've visited. I never knew it was exclusive to you two.

I would agree that in a case like CSS's conspiracy theories, what we're really saying is that we require unrefutable proof, because of the extreme nature of the claims being made. Tell me that your house is red, and I won't require too much proof to accept the possibility. Tell me your house can fly, and I'll need to see it before I believe it.

I know you like to tell us that Australia is a veritable paradise, but are you saying you don't have houseflies in Oz, as well?
