More Taxes on the way.

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0509/22444.html[^] Sugar[^] So now they are looking at increases the tobacco and alcohol tax AGAIN! a tax on coffee, sugar, corn syrup, "unhealthy" foods such as salty meat, fried potatoes, and so on.
Tobacco and alcohol should be taxed as much as possible. Marijuanna should be legalised and also taxed heavily. Taxes on food for being unhealthy is not so good.

No, it isn't. Not *really* Because, while it's easy to say that tobacco and alcohol have costs to society, taxes on food for being unhealthy don't amount to the same social benefit, hurt the poor more, and are subjective. Lobbyists will spend a fortune to prove that their fast food is not unhealthy after all, and the end result would be a joke.

Oay fine, let's just tax their BMI, on a log scale: $1 for $.01 for 1 point over normal, $0.10 for 2 points, $1.00 for 3 points. . .

But, different people have different body types. A BMI is not an accurate reflection of how you eat, or anything else.

But soda and sugary drinks found a friend Tuesday in Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the ranking member on the Finance Committee.
 I would never in a 1000 years have guessed that a Sen. from a state that is receiving billions of dollars in taxpayer money to subsidize corn crops used in the production of sweetener would fight against a tax on sugary drinks.

No it shouldn't. Its all about extracting as much money as possible from people. They know that they can count on people like you to support such measures since you don't smoke or drink. People should be able to purchase their favorite tobacco product or alcoholic beverage knowing that they are not being discriminated against by a greedy government and an ignorant society. Equality and Freedom are basic principle's that are lost. Before you know it, fat people's health care costs will be taxed. There has to be a boundary for which this taxation stops. That boundary should be a flat tax percentage, it should not go farther than that. It should be added to the constitution, but not that it would make any difference, the government is doing whatever the hell it wants.

As a person who is well off, I'd rather they punish the stupid, instead of the rich. Punish idiocy instead of success. Do you hold the opposite opinion ?

I am an advocate of a user pays principle, even when it costs me money. I NEVER complain about bank fees, for example.

Yeah, it's the people looking after their health, who are ignorant.

they will but you have to send in your empty Lays bags for the rebate.

Don't you always say that when you have no intelligent comeback tho ?
