Finally some good news...

Ordered by Congress to "buy American" when spending money from the $787 billion stimulus package, the town of Peru, Ind., stunned its Canadian supplier by rejecting sewage pumps made outside of Toronto. After a Navy official spotted Canadian pipe fittings in a construction project at Camp Pendleton, Calif., they were hauled out of the ground and replaced with American versions[^] I would love to see "free market globalism" trashed for good. Governments should have the authority to regulate what and how much goes through the borders with the objective of keeping the economy in its domain up with a diverse market.

How much control over business are you in favor of the government having? Should they be able to set prices and wages? Determine which companies are allowed to sell stock and which aren't? Order contracts to be broken or signed? Decide where you should work and when? . . .hmm, maybe the last isn't such a bad idea in your case.

Pissed because they make more than you do? You've been paid way more than you're worth.

Not a bad answer - but why should we look upon Canada, which pays its people quite well and has often been at our side when our country needed a friend (Where do you think all those planes from overseas went when we closed our borders on 9/11/2001? Most of the people they took in and sheltered for days were Americans) the same way we might look at China or India?

Now with most folks that would be a rhetorical question - but you really aren't sure, are you?

Why? If the work is worth 2 bucks a day, why in god's name would you want to give someone more than that to do it for you? If you think people should have more of your money than their works is worth, why don't you just give it to them for doing nothing?
Chaining ourselves to the moral high ground does not make us good guys. Aside from making us easy targets, it merely makes us idiotic prisoners of our own self loathing.

What I know is that the more I have to pay someone else to do work for me, the less of my own money I get to keep.

You are not paying anyone to do work for you. You are buying chinese and mexican made goods from a corporation that takes advantage of semi-slave labor, and guess what..they keep the profits!

Yeah, so? Why don't you just start your own company making the same stuff and I'll buy it from you so you can keep the profit?

I have a plan for my own software company but it would be foolish to get in debt for it because it requires a lot of time and patience, and little resources to get started.
One resource it requires is someone who can program. Where will you find someone like that?
