I don't know. I do personally believe that our government, media and, wall street are a highly condensed oligarchy/plutocracy. I believe nothing that comes out of any of their orifices.

Nice. It might be safe to assume what comes out of their asses smells though. :-D They might think it's roses, but we both know better.

What do you figure you could make from a 1-year CD with a face value of the most they'd loan you for a year?

Is this reasonable anecdotal data showing that perhaps the credit markets are thawing?

Yes. It's also a sign that the same idiots are in charge now as were last year. (Loaning to you is not idiotic; loaning at 0% is the height of asininity.)

We get these offers all the time from our credit cards for 0% for 12-18 months. They used to be exactly like free money but lately all the offers include a 3% fee which I'm sure this offer would include in the form of some type of processing fee. I never understood it either but maybe they're banking on your screwing up and not paying the total off by the deadline and then they get to charge you the back interest. We've used these offers in the past to purchase big ticket items we didn't expect to need such as a replacement washing machine etc. (Thanks GE...) Like you said below, if you've got a credit score around 800 they're trying to get you to take their money before the government makes them hand it out to someone with a score of 600 or worse.

But when it comes to wall street, government is a hired gun, ready to take your wallet and hand it over to the fat cats.

where the term, "fat cat", is not just a chubby out of shape investor or speculator but also the UAW and ACORN - leaving the tax paying part of the population thoroughly fucked.

Mike - typical white guy. The USA does have universal healthcare, but you have to pay for it. D'oh. Thomas Mann - "Tolerance becomes a crime when applied to evil." The NYT - my leftist brochure. Calling an illegal alien an “undocumented immigrant” is like calling a drug dealer an “unlicensed pharmacist”. Once upon a time unions served a purpose and, I suspect, sometimes still do or the U.S. Chamber of Commerce wouldn't hate them so strongly. However, it's been a long time since most of 'em have cared about their members and the leaders resemble (physically, psychologically, and in lifestyle) no-one as much as they do the corporate suits they face across the bargaining table. Likewise with community organizers. And, for that matter, the great majority of the exec directors of non-profit orgs like the Community Chest or Red Cross.

I see no separation between the three except in name.

Would you put Salvation Army in that category too then? I don't think I've every heard of them doing anything dubious.

Not at all. I think their reputation is just about spotless, and the percentage of what they collect that is spent on overhead is miniscule compared to what other groups take out of program funds to pay off their staff.

My father, who passed away in '82, worked for USS Steel for 33 years before he retired. He was a stauch union member (and straight ticket Democrat voter) for 30 of those years. He was thoroughly disgusted with the Steel Workers Union after 30 years because the union protected malcontents, milingerers and general deadasses and finally took a promotion to a management level that took him out of the union. I saw him man the picket lines for 180 days in the 1950s, his leaving the union was no small thing.
