Good Weekend for Diplomacy
-
If any one was expecting proof that a more open-armed approach to those the Bush administration called the axis of evil, we saw the proof of the pudding this weekend. Kim Jong-il, having spent all the cash the Bush administration had given him, fired off three missiles and a nuclear bomb. The United States in encouraginbg the U.N. to write a really, really angry letter. I mean really, really, really angry! Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in a response to overtures made by the Obama Adminsitrations, said, "no how, no way, not today, not ever." Or words to that effect. Then he announced that the Nuclear issue was decided once and for all time. Meanwhile Nancy Pelosi is over in China (where the CIA can't get her?) During the Bush administration she was often quite criticial of China's civil rights or the lack thereof. But now that Obama is adopting the same "anything goes" policy towards them that his predecessor had, Pelosi isn't mentioning the slave state's record of keeping a majority of its citizens as feudal serfs at all. . . With diplomatic triumps like these, we can have great faith in foreign affairs conducted under Obama and Clinton. Yesireebob!

Is it just me or is President Obama's naivete getting more and more obvious? He's like a bleeding tuna swimming in a shark tank.

Ya know... With the DPRK, a year or so ago I could say, "what are we waiting for, them to get a nuke and a missle?!" I don't know what to say these days. I guess we're waiting for them to actually use it. Which will likely mean some of my family will have a hard time. We'll throw people in jail for future crimes, but you have to actually blow a country off the map to get in trouble with nukes. And I really don't get the media. "Today Obama had strong words about the North Korean nuke test" Obama: "Umm, we really didn't like it. Umm, like reeeaaaallly didn't like it" anchor: "Wow, those really were strong words. Back to you in the studio Gomer!" However, I also noticed in the news today that Israel is ratcheting up the rhetoric on preemptive strategies against Iran. I guess we can dream that if they decide to bomb Iran they'll do a Korean courtesy fly by, as if that were in their interests.

Yep. Problem is, he's just driving the tuna and we're all on board for the ride. :~ I know what would relieve the tension... Appointing an activist judge to the Supreme Court based on sex and race alone! (I know it wasn't just for her sex and race, the fact that she'd happily wipe her ass with the Constitution played a large part as well)

Quite incredible, isn't it? But sadly, also quite predictable. I'm fine with it though. These people lied their way into power in what was one of the most obscene political spectacles in American history, and convinced a huge majority that W - along with all conservatives - was an ignorant piece of shit reprobate. Now they have no choice but to prove their point with an arrogant, self promoting, AMerica hating, racist ner-do-well as president, a crazy lady as speaker of the house, and a spineless worm as leader of the senate. Sounds like a plan to me.
Chaining ourselves to the moral high ground does not make us good guys. Aside from making us easy targets, it merely makes us idiotic prisoners of our own self loathing.

Not only that, but she is a radical activist judge that no republican dare oppose (don't want to make those hispanics angry!) We're so fucked... (Although, I do hold out hope that more radicals on the court will tend to push Kennedy closer towards the Scalia camp)

Can I call 'em, or can I call 'em?!! On the other hand, I pretty much agree with you.

No matter what any one says about terrorism, or the economy, or any other issue - the holy grail of American politics is the supreme court. That is what all the lies and deceit and games are really all about. Every other issue is nothing more than a means to the end of packing the courts with like minded people dedicated to a specific agenda. She has precisely the same disdain and contempt for this country and its constitution that Obama harbors so deeply. And nothing is more telling of the reality of the political situaion in this country than this. Souter was a repubublican nominanee who gleefully took his seat on the court knowing full well he was not going to support the positions representative of the democratic processes that made the opportunity available to him. An honorable man would at the very least have said 'gee, ya know, I'm really on the other side of every major issue from the people who voted for you." And an honorable man, knowing he wanted to retire, would have at the very least allowed a republican to replace him. But Souter's very calculated and blatantly undisguised decision demonstrates the utter mad dog contempt that these people have for any political principle that is even remotely at odds with their agenda. This strikes like a knife in the back of representative democracy.
