I watched all 56 minutes of it and, all the whole I was impressed. I've heard him speak more eloquently, and I've heard say things I felt better about than what I heard to day, but he wasn't talking to me and he wasn't really talking to America. I think he got across the message he needed to. Instead he was speaking for America - and before whining starts, the answer is around 60% of the American voters said he could, that's who. He occasionally irritated me as when he claimed that our bribing a bunch of insurrectionists to switch sides back in the 50's could be deemed the moral equivalent of being the greatest sponsor of terrorism on the face of the planet, but on the whole he spoke truth to people who didn't necessarily want to hear it. (When he said that the two major factions of of Arabic Islam needed to work out their differences, there was thunderous silence that echoed in the room.) Sometimes he spoke this truth to the Middle-Eastern Muslims, sometimes he spoke it to Israel (Finally, an American President not afraid of the "Jewish Vote," and willing to remind Israel that they are bought and paid for.) I believe he went over there to say something along the lines of "whatever the past, let's start working towards a future of coexistence and respect." He didn't say it in a way that would seem weak to the macho cultures of the Middle East and he made it clear that Holocaust denial was not acceptable, any more than any bullshit justification of 9/11 was. Now it's up to the Middle Easterners. As I said yesterday, they need to reclaim their manhood and stop playing the role of victim, however much that might justify cowardly attacks against women and children, and however much it might provide an excuse for not getting off their ass and working towards a better future. For the sake of their grand-kids, and my grand-kids, I hope they do.

You do realise that by admitting that the US President was correct in acknowledging the existence of countries outside of America that you are threatening the stability of the entire free world? ;)

Actually 52.9%. The only ones who wanted him, and apparently the only ones he's interested in being president for. But anyway... I haven't caught the speech yet. I'll try to suffer through it (a transcript would be much more pleasant). Your analysis sounds fair, I'll try to keep it in mind while I suffer through it.

          A) The US doesn't currently have a president, you mean the guy currently illegally holding the office of president. B) Acknowledging the existence of countries outside of America? Call your pharmacists and tell him something has gone horribly wrong. C) I don't know if you've noticed, but the free world is already on pretty shaky ground at the moment.

Bush was a natural born citizen. Ya know, like the Constitution requires? And however suspect those elections may have been, this last one certainly didn't improve on transparency and honesty. So, what exactly am I missing that I need to wake up and realize?

I believe he went over there to say something along the lines of "whatever the past, let's start working towards a future of coexistence and respect." He didn't say it in a way that would seem weak to the macho cultures of the Middle East and he made it clear that Holocaust denial was not acceptable, any more than any bullshit justification of 9/11 was.

That he is brave enough to start a dialogue, and willing to listen, that he can stare down the Israeli lobby groups, and that he is prepared to reverse 50 years of American Colonialism is worth a salute. Whether it gets beyond the talking shops and becomes any form of reality is another matter, and one that relies on the goodwill of all concerned. I wish him luck of it.

Because you don't support your President does not make his tenure illigal.

Nope, it sure doesn't. Whatever "illigal" is...
