Like I said, in a nation full of gun nuts, if I was a cop and a guy gave me lip like this guy did, I'd be on edge, too.

If he had a gun and he wanted to use it, he would have and being tased would probably be his trigger.

Instead of water boarding terrorists why don't we just taser them? Its perfectly legal, we do it to our own citizens all the time for rather minor infractions, and it apparently is far more painful than waterboarding, it certainly appears to be effective. Its a win-win! Everybody would be happy!

No, no. Apparently not only is waterboarding legal, it's also wonderfully effective too. We should continue waterboarding terrorists and start waterboarding regular criminals to save the police time in their interrogations. All that time spent searching for clues is wasted. Someone knows who dunnit and water is cheap. 24 is the new CSI.* * this post may contain trace amounts of sarcasm

See, in a society where anyone could be armed, cops are probably more nervous when a guy starts acting like a dick, because the next thing he may do, is pull out a gun and shoot the cop. I never understand why people give lip to folks who are in a position to make their lives miserable.

Christian, I hate to break it to you, but you live in a society where anyone could be armed. The difference you are talking about is that in your society, the only ones with guns are criminals who are far more likely to shoot any cop who stops them for speeding than a good friend of mine: grandmother, runs an animal sanctuary, and is licensed to carry concealed weapons. If most cops thinks that someone he's approaching is armed and dangerous, they don't reach for a taser, but a 9 shot of some sort. Those that do think a taser is the right choice are self-eliminating, which is good for the rest of the cops.

LOL, that's like the plot from a cheesy police comedy.

            From the article:

When they found Smith and took him to police headquarters, he refused to give another sample, telling the officers that he would have to “be tased” to give one. After detectives and officers tried to get Smith to comply with the court order, and he refused, they drive stunned him with a Taser and then took the DNA sample.

He refused to comply with a court order, then told police to tase him. So they did.

And yet, there's far more shootings in the US, than there are here, across the board. So, it doesn't really work, in the real world.

We're not debtating that. We're debating whether a cop would be dumb enough to taser someone they thought might be armed and dangerous. You claim they would be. I say otherwise. Not across the board, by the way, only in the states with a high illegal immigrant population. North Dakota, for instance, is probably a helluvalot safer than much of Oz.

Well, that could be true. I mean, our cops don't have to carry stuff like that, so I'm actually unsure of the degree to which it incapacitates someone. Either way, at the core, the guy was being a dick. You don't be a dick to a man with a taser.

I read a book called 'outliers' recently that suggested the south of the US was safer than the north, unless you actually cross someone. That is, random crime happens in the north, revenge crime in the south. I guess what I'm saying is, the statistics get interpreted different ways by different people. Is it the immigrants killing each other ( or doing the killing at all ? ). What is the cause and what is the effect ? What can be done, when so much of the US service economy is based on taking advantage of illegals ? That's why your government doesn't just send them back. Hell, in Texas, the government builds places for them to congregate and look for work.

Could be. The north has a worse drug problem than the south it seems. However, the hispanic gangs are all over - selling drugs and getting revenge.

More liberal bushwa. The studies done on this show that the legal immigrants i.e. those with skills, are a net gain to the economy, while the illegals, most of whom are illiterate and with few if any employable skills are a net loss. But not to the meat packers and landscapers, and chicken slaughterers. For them, it's a gain all the way. Until they get sued for killing people with e-coli, anyway.

Sure. So, the question is, why is it allowed to happen ? If it's not to provide someone cheap to make your coffee and clean your hotel room ?

OK, I thought Stan had said in the past they have lots of oil but can't get it efficiently out of the ground. I didn't realise they sell you a lot of oil. So, why is Mexico so poor if it has oil to sell ?

Yeah. Stan says lots of things. Mexico is our second largest supplier of oil. Best bet is to assume the opposite of what he say is factual.

Because the power structure in Mexico is totally corrupt.
