OK, so if people see one, they have to call it in ? How does the system pay for the people who enter the data, or do people enter the data direct onto the GPS, like a map correction ?

Product PhantomAlert installs on your GPS and notifies you of speed camera's. What a great idea! http://phantomalert.com/[^] and write up in the compost.[^].

Nope, the crazy drivers are evil. The cameras don’t kill people.

I'm sorry, but speed cameras where I live are not used to protect lives, they are used to generate revenue. They are indeed evil.

If the radars are calibrated to react at 5-10 MPH over speed then yes, we have a money machines. If they detect only the potential killers/suicides driving with 20+ MPH over the limit they are something good.

Try 5 KPH, which is about 3MPH. I agree, if they were only looking for people driving at insane speeds, they would be doing a good thing. Here, they keep moving the actual limits down, because they don't make enough money off cameras anymore.

Interesting. Around here they use the same technology to simply inform drivers what their speed is on a large display. It's proven that telling someone that he is doing twenty miles over the speed limit will 9:10 times get him to slow down. Now if only they could develop technology that would detect someone who was talking on his cell phone while shaving and spreading a map out across the steering wheel so he can determine which exit to take. . .

is this sorta like I used to tell my trainees, "read the manual, then if you still don't understand come ask me again" ???

I've always wanted to get a can of spray paint, black preferably, taped to the end of a long stick with a mechanism that lets me actuate the spray and deal with these cameras as I came across them.

Is 9:10 supposed to be a fraction? I've always thought that a number in the a:b format is a ratio, but 9/19 doesn't really sound like a heartening figure

Is 9:10 supposed to be a fraction? I've always thought that a number in the a:b format is a ratio, but 9/19 doesn't really sound like a heartening figure

                                  Steve Jackson already suggested that.

I don't have anything. I was simply asking for a clarification - nine nineteenths didn't sound like a common fraction to use, and was interested to know if it was a different way of writing fractions

In my region (Chennai, India), the city administration aggressively spends the tax payer's money in setting up all types of fancy signals and cameras at strategic places across the city but forgets to initiatilise them to work. After a lot of years, with good amount of dust gathered on it, they just take it and throw it away.
