I've been a codeproject lurker under different monikers for many years. Codeproject has been mostly a u$ specific site. But times they are a changing. I find my self assigned to projects that are mostly open source. Apache Tomcat, Tortoise SVN, IBIS-PH, and oddly enough instead of SQL Server, SAS (not open source). Now codeproject has not changed in the new paradigm shift is of no surprise, but I can no longer make a living at monitoring any other forum on this site. I find most of my time on SAS usenet sites. The only reason I'm here in the backroom is some entertainment while my crappy SAS program compiles. Now I enjoy Oakmans and Grahms, and Stans, and Mike Grams posts (in addition to CSS, ILIONS, and that guy from Pakistan (Adijouon) or what ever there the hell his name was. But I have to say that CodeProject has to adapt to the new open source plurality. This is the base problem. Not how the lounge, soapbox 2, the backroom operate. The only reason I'm in the backroom is to entertain my self while my SAS program compiles.

Well, you have to consider the possibility that your personal experience may not be the norm. In my experience, too many people are rewriting perfectly good systems, just to have them in .NET. MySQL is used a fair bit, but SQL Server Express makes more sense, IMO. Sure, there are lots of poor people who use open source stuff because they have to. Personally, while I am sure much of the open source stuff works just fine, I think it's retarded to charge people and then give them stuff where support is a matter of religion and not of right. If I have to use a library, I pay for it, and I know the support is there. I would be interested to know what % of other people agree with you that open source is a particular growth industry. And, in any case, CP has moved past the MS centric stuff, if you view all, there's LAMP stuff, Java, I believe, and so on.

It may very well be as far as CP is concerned. But as a Microsoftie working in .NET since the 2001 first beta, it's not my problem. That fact that Rob will likely never read your message is a problem for me. As to getting a room where the trolls are unwelcome - I'm working on it.

I get paid. I hate open source. I do what they tell me.

Well, ok then, you're on the right side at least philosophically.

Me too... usually ... as long as they sign that pay check...

Seriously, Oakman. There are more serious problems in the world to worry about then a couple of trolls running loose in the Backroom. I take what people say in here with a grain of salt and just let it be.

That's cool. Problem is, a bunch of people who post far more regularly than you do and whose posts I found interesting have stopped because they have different standards. Personally, I don't put up with dog-crap on the bottom of my shoe. I scrape it off as thoroughly as possible. Some folks apparently think it's more manly to pretend they don't notice the smell, but differences of opinion are what makes horse races.

Just get the fuck out of here, you don't own this place. I don't give a rats ass about you or how you feel about anything. You are unimportant.
