As a psychologist, you must surely know that when a man kills his family and then commits suicide, there is more than "I have failed as a man" at the root of it.

Bob Emmett I solemnly declare that I do not wish the USA to be more like Britain, Canada, or Oz.

See, when I started making good money, I was careful to never live beyond the means I'd have if I lost my job. Sure, we got a nice house, took nice holidays, but I paid cash. I saved for things, I didn't go into tons of debt. Some people are just stupid, that isn't the fault of anyone but the person involved. I stopped my kids watching commercial TV because I didn't think they were ready to understand what advertising is. Everyone who invests in the stock market, which means everyone with a job, wants companies to advertise and make money. That's how it is. The main reason we will never have any attempt to control population growth, is because population growth is what makes the market grow, and everyone wants the market to grow, so they have retirement money. Advertising exists because we live in a free market, capitalistic society. The freedom you love to blather about, is the freedom to make goods and advertise them. The only thing that could control it, is the government that you keep hoping to limit. This is therefore another example of you jumping from one paranoid theory to another, even tho they basically contradict what you claim to be your beliefs. This is a pile of ignorant BS. It's certainly not 'completely factual', it's almost entirely opinion. None of the things it talks about, affect intelligent people, only morons. Anyone with any sort of sense, lives within their means and understands what advertising is, and learns to ignore it.

Bah. Give it a rest you white trash moron. You're acting just like any damn communist would, meaning: You want what you don't deserve. You're a low life asshole that don't want to contribute anything to society by working hard. You just hide behind a thin facade of "We need to save humanity before it's too late!". Stop posting your crap on a site that's run and read by intelligent people. You're not impressing anyone here. Get a fucking job you loser, and be happy with getting what you deserve.

I've worked hard most of my adult life. I come in no less than 5 minutes early every shift with a good attitude and a smile and I get my job done. I've never collected unemployment or welfare checks, the most I have ever gotten was food ONLY ONCE. Go climb back in your hole ans stay there.

Yeah, everything is fine. I moved out of France, got a new job and bought a farm. So I've been a little busy with all that. Not sure what to do with the stables, but the apple, pear, plum, quince and medlars produce more fruit than I can eat.

Our country may be in debt, and that may affect the country as a whole, but that really doesn't affect my day to day life. You're spinning a tangled web of crap, to try to make it look like you can talk about the Fed convincingly. we already proved you can't.

Only if you're weak minded. Like I said, I cut my kids off from it because they were too young, but once they were old enough, I explained to them what advertising is, and now they watch it, and are fine. No-one told me, I worked it out for myself, and I'm fine. Perhaps your head was already in trouble before you saw any ads ?

They do now. My point was that parents who are not sad caricatures, will educate their kids, and will be educated themselves. Just like, anyone who gets into so much debt that they feel they need to shoot themselves for losing their job, has made their own bed. I could lose my job tomorrow, and while my day to day lifestyle would have to adjust, I have NO debts in my life. I pay off my credit card every month, I never owe more than $10,000 on it, and that would be extreme, if I've had to book travel, etc. I own my house and my cars. We could live in the best area of hobart, in a huge house. I could easily afford that, today. I won't do it, because if I lost my job, we'd lose the lot. That's called managing your money, and not living outside your means. I have enough in my immediate bank account that we could eat and pay bills for two years, if we had to. Again, people make choices, they choose to live on the edge, or choose to use money as a tool to create security, and not be driven by mere possessions.

That's hilarious. How quickly we reach the point where you don't address my points, and try to insult me to cover up for your inadequacies. Here's another thought. No-one is forcing anyone to watch TV. i watch close to none, myself. So, again, everything you're talking about, is all about people making poor choices and then trying to blame others for it. You've not addressed ONE point I've raised in this discussion. As usual.

Yes, I would agree with that. It was when I taught myself to program that I stopped watching TV, and I realised that most people don't question it, they just watch it ALL the time.

I'm sorry, but everyone's choices are their responsibility. In Nuremberg, the 'everyone else was doing it' defense was always rejected. Everyone makes their own choices. If you watch a lot of TV or not, basic math should come into play when you decide what to buy, how much to borrow, etc. The point is, people's debt is THEIR fault, no-one elses.

You didn't say 'some people's life is hard'. That is true. But, not people who live in the US and have lots of debt. That's not hard. Not having enough to eat, or being persecuted for your beliefs, to the point of death, THOSE things make life hard.

How are we ? Kids watch TV, but do they borrow money or have debt ? That video was drivel, the way it said the schools are controlling people. Society has always been about conforming, to some degree. So what ?

Sure - it's human nature to blame others for your shortcomings. But, that doesn't make it right, and it sure as hell doesn't help.

                                          Well, that's 50% what I said, and 50% drivel.

Well, fair enough. But, inflation only affects what I can and cannot buy. If I don't define my happiness in those terms, it's a minor inconvenience, that's all.

That's not really true. We have to pay taxes. You think they'd abolish taxes if the state was not in debt ?

Yes, but no matter what happens, I am in as good a position as I could be in, precisely because I avoid debt where-ever I can. Which was my only point - the debts people have are their fault and their responsibility.
