Have you checked public opinion of the war? I can assure you, at least around here it really didn't work.

It was high enough to go to war without too much of an outcry, we are still there. Many believe since Obama is in office that the wars are over. I think that is successful propaganda, at least to his core supporters.

No Draft
Well, Rahm Emmanuel stated that citizenship is not an entitlement program, and that there will be compulsory service for people between the ages of 18-25. Not necessarily military service, but volentere service for national preparedness and other civic duties. You can easily google Rahm Emmanuel compulsory service, you can watch the words come directly from his mouth (without any cut scenes or editing).

Good? The horrors of having to help people, or fill out paperwork, or do any number of tasks that could be involved. That said, you can always weasel out of it somehow, it's just a matter of spending a the time to find out how.
Yes, mandatory servitude is great! Salute The Great One!

Wikipedia says:
In his 2006 book, co-authored with Bruce Reed, The Plan: Big Ideas for America,[49] Emanuel advocated a three-month compulsory universal service program for Americans between the ages of 18 and 25.
Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rahm_Emmanuel[^] So... You say there WILL BE a mandatory period... Wikipedia says that he advocated it in his book. Think maybe you're blowing this a little out of proportion, as usual? A lot of people, politicians included, have a lot of wacky viewpoints. Whether this is a good idea or not, it won't happen without going through this little thing called "congress." Just because he believes it and wrote it in his book, doesn't mean it's going to happen. Seriously, CSS... I know you love searching Youtube for controversy, but this is really scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Well, just look at what has passed through congress.

Which increases the likelihood that it will pass through congress.

Don't get me wrong... I have as little respect for our elected officials as the next guy, but they're not COMPLETELY stupid. Nothing says "Police State" like mandatory service. Now, what MIGHT make it through would be some sort of tax breaks or other financial incentives to do these types of things... Much in the same way people join the military for a while to get free schooling (Or discounted, whatever the details are) That, I think, would be reasonable... Do something to help the country, get a little in return. But mandatory? Not a chance... No matter how they justify it, people will be reminded of the draft and of the old Vietnam days.

I was thinking along the lines of 'Actually doing something constructive at some point in their lives'.
