      Hey, Private Wee Parts, you could at least get the name right. I did find a definition of freakazoid:

      A bizarre or very strange person;
      A person with outstanding or unusual skills but questionable sanity.

      Oh, would that it were so! Alas, merely a semi-detached suburban Mr. James. All that nonsense aside, I have never claimed to be either an AGW-Believer or an AGW-Denier. (As I have frequently had to tell Gillian, I have opinions based on evidence - not beliefs.) I find the evidence for AGW inconclusive (now, even more so :) ); I find the Cap and Trade proposals fatally flawed; I would prefer society reacted promptly to actual disasters, rather than spending trillions preparing for what may be a non-event.

      Bob Emmett Proud to be a Freakazoid.

              Oh noes! The government is trying to promote good health! It's an evil conspiracy to kill the entire population! Quick, get your tin foil drinking glasses! Aaaaaaah! Yeah, I know... I just can't seriously argue with CSS anymore... It's like trying to strike up a two-way conversation with a TV commercial. Sure, it has flashy colors and catchy music, but in the end it's just wasting everyone's time.

                      You are an optimist. When given evidence that their beliefs are wrong, hard powerful evidence, fanatics tend to believe themselves correct even more and become more entrenched in their beliefs while adding a martyr complex to it. I can get better results trying to reason with my 4 yr old than a fanatic. Least he's reasonable and his tantrums only last an hour tops.

                        That takes quite some time. Running fstdt[^] I occasionally get emails from people who had been at one point or another quoted on the site going, "Holy crap, I was a complete idiot". It's an odd thing really, they're almost always those who were so sure everything they said was true. I've considered tacking on a 'Redeemed!' award to quotes by such people, but I'm not sure it'd send quite the message I intend to.

                            Those are the kind of people I respect most. The ones who, regardless of their original opinion, are prepared to change their way of thinking when presented with proof to the contrary. Not a huge fan of Sagan in general, but I like this quote: In science it often happens that scientists say, "You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken," and then they actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion. ~Carl Sagan, 1987

                              Normally I'd do some research and post compelling evidence to the contrary, but you would just call me a "hedgy", claim it's some sort of conspiracy, and post a bunch of youtube links from Alex Jones. Bye now.
