Imagine my surprise, when browsing fringe sites, looking for a quote by Robert Anton Wilson, a remarkably objective total agnostic sage. I stumble upon this artfully hidden piece of arcana. Was I shocked at what I read; I had to alert the world to the depth of the deceit. http://www.theconison.com/2009/08/is-world-around-us-just-illusion.html

Wow, I think the Wachowski brothers would take one look at that site and say, "That's it. We're outta here."

I used to tell my kids this when they were little. Beats bogie men. :) Carroll: Let's consider who it was that dreamed it all. It must have been me or the Red King. He was part of my dream, of course - but then I was part of his dream too!
Bob Emmett I'm not really here.

It is interesting that the first clip tends to support the notion that each of us creates his own reality via observation. That would equal chaos. Surely my wife's perception of me does not measure up to my own perception of my self and the disconnect could be disasterous to my health and well being if nothing else! It gives me no little comfort to substitute God in the role of observer. He can keep track of all of the details, run the universe, observe each molicule, and give us life. Of course, if I am not the one running the universe I guess I might have to answer to the one who actually is.

But that's just the thing: there is no way to empirically prove that the world isn't an illusion, for all the empirical evidence which one might attempt to amass, in either direction, is itself contained "within the world” and follows from / depends upon the assumption that the world is real. Empiricism is a very limited tool.

The term 'comment' implies that one has something to say. And, well, you never do.
I do love these exchanges. I laugh out loud thinking about how smart you think you are.

Oh? Do you mean the ones where you assert that I make claims "about how smart [I] think [I am]," implying in relation that you're not so smart -- despite that I've never done so? Or, do you mean the ones where you assert that I make claims about how stupid you are -- despite that I've never done so? Or, do you mean the ones where I assert that you *refuse* to think properly and hinestly -- and use your own behavior as evidence? I can see where you'd enjoy that.

Or we can safely assume gravity isn't going to stop working tomorrow, and figure reality is at least an analog of what it seems. With that, it becomes a highly reliable tool. But really, do you have any reason to believe it is an illusion?

Are you one of those "science" worshipping fools? Do you understand that "scientists" claim that gravity *might* stop working at any time. These folks (by which word I mean 'fools') say it is vanishingly small that gravity will stop working, but nonetheless that it might.
But really, do you have any reason to believe it is an illusion?
Did I say that "the world" is an illusion? No, I did not. So, what did I say?
