Spent a good hour ( a little less than half my dev time at home for the night, as Donna is out, I was sole parent ) cursing SVG and trying to get my game to work. Eventually found I was missing a / inside a node ( <use x="0" y="0" xlink:href="#Asteroids"> instead of <use x="0" y="0" xlink:href="#Asteroids"/> ). ARGH !!! It took me a half hour to accept the error the browser was giving me, because I kept cutting out the code I had added, to no avail. I don't even recall touching that particular part of the XML this evening. *sigh* At least I made *some* progress, although nothing like what I'd hoped. Dinner guests tomorrow, movies Sunday night, swimming with the kids, going to see XXX, I doubt I'll get anything done now before Monday..... What is harsh (and unusual) is that XXX came out in South Africa 3 weeks before in the UK. I would have been jealous if it weren't for an unnamed market selling DVD's from unnamed sources... :-O Not that I would know anything about that. I'm jealous and haven't seen the movie - really... ;P

Okay, you want to hear about irritating bugs? This one has been plaguing me for days... An ASP.NET web site, handling signups for a tournament. ONE page, when viewed from a remote machine, fails to load 90% of the time and takes about 6 minutes to download (14Kb) the other 10%. It has a fairly complicated databind to a DataGrid and a single DropDownList (ie. the DropDownList shows all team names, the DataGrid shows all the players (Name with "Edit" link, Email Address with mailto link, Location) in the selected team. Really though, that isn't too much. I have another much more complicated DataGrid for signing up, I have pages populating multiple drop down lists, I have much bigger HTML files when built, NONE of them have this problem. I finally noticed today, just scrolling off the right of the @Page tag a clause saying 'Buffer="false"'. I must have accidentally clicked on this in the page properties window. I was driving to work today thinking, Gee, I haven't seen any posts about the Asteroids game in a while. Actually, this was prompted by an NPR spot about old video games. Enjoy your guests, movie, and kids! Sometimes taking your mind off things helps with those inspirations! Marc

Not to mention that it's good to remind the kids who I am from time to time, and give my arms a break ( left elbow, really sore for a few weeks now ). You're right, but I've had so much on recently, and I'm just glad to get back to the Asteroids game ( haven't touched it in weeks ), and looking forward to finishing it so I can focus on my ASP.NET bugtracker ( yeah, the world needs another bugtracker. But I will use it, and it will help me learn more asp.net ). Christian Hey, at least Logo had, at it's inception, a mechanical turtle.
