This is gay

Eh? How the hell do you define 'Gay'? Lat time I noticed it meant 'homo' or occasionally 'happy'!
Morality is indistinguishable from social proscription
I thought I'd do a few CSS style posts and see if he responded.

The point I hoped to make was: The statement "There is a word for people who bemoan the loss of the word 'gay', yet never would have used it otherwise." would require prescience. (In order to determine the future 'otherwise' condition, before it was precluded by the introduction of the new meaning of 'gay'.)
*grin* well, it WAS a book written in humour.

I see OriginalGriff has posted the actual quote: "even though they had never used the word in any context at all until they started complaining that they couldn't use it any more." Which would require no prescience. I'll go away now. :)

So it's not enough that you feed and nurture him, now you have to be him?

*grin* this forum is very quiet, so I thought I'd mix it up a bit.

Yeah, I can see that. I know I never say anything is gay at our family gatherings, which include two gay people. But, I couldn't resist a cheap joke.

That's not mixing it up. You can't complain about his behavior and then emulate it saying look how cool I can be doing it, too. Instead of offering to pay for CSS seeing a shrink, maybe you should do something about the obsession you have for him?

Neither did I! How did that happen? :) I am afraid the sig. is due to 'Gillian'. 'She' referred to Britain as the Isle of the Dead. I used its British form in my reply, and have retained it.

ROTFL. Fact is, I am not posting in Oakman's love in forum anymore, and as I work from home, sometimes I get bored when it's quiet.

I only lasted a few days in Oakman's thinkless tank. Too many arbitrarily enforced rules for my taste. And taking pot shots at CSS can be fun now and then but you've gone way over the top. And you already had your conspiracy theories about the US to start!

When people started using gay in that context, they didn't just grab it out of thin air. They were tying it to homosexuals and using the derogatory interpretation. I'm pretty sure when it first got grabbed, it had a much narrower focus and the tie was more obvious.

so the homosexual community have hijacked the word gay, a word that meant happy and carefree, and now complain when it has another meaning! what a supprise
Go away and research the subject, analyze the options for and against, understand the problem and them come back when you agree with me.
In hungarian the word for 'hot' has been taken by the butty-batters. You can no longer say 'I am hot', in the same way you wouldn't say 'I am gay' in english. The lovely solution is to say 'It is hot for me' - perfectly acceptable. I found this out when I was first learning hungarian and I went into a meeting on a hot summer's day. I knew 'meleg' is hot and 'vagyok' means I am, I was hot and sticky and said "Meleg vagyok". The room stopped. Birds fell out of trees with shock. My mistake was explained and I said a *bad* anglo saxon word.
