PG-13
-
Ok, this reveals how bored i am i guess, but does anyone know how this came about? Was this something carefully calculated, is there something about 13 that 12 and 14 can envy but never obtain, or was this just a case of someone on the ratings board thinking "hey, 13 sounds good and ominous - let's go with that!" ? yeah, ok... it just seemed wrong to go into The Soapbox and see a whole screen filled with "PG"...
Shog9 ------
So they took me down to the gallows And this boy, he said to me: "Why do you smile, when the rope's around your neck?" I said, "I tell you boy, when i get back..."

Yeah, I'm not really sure about that one. I didn't know regular PG was associated with an age in the first place. Either your parents should guide you or not. Are parentals more guiding at PG-13, due to slightly more mature content? Parent:"What? OH man, I've really got my eye on you during this film, son! PG-13, my goodness!" Yeah, Yeah, and I reserve my right of not comment of your right to not comment ;P Cheers,Joao Vaz And if your dream is to care for your family, to put food on the table, to provide them with an education and a good home, then maybe suffering through an endless, pointless, boring job will seem to have purpose. This is just my speculation. But in the U.S. 13 is the usual age to graduate from elementary school. Not that long ago (I am into genealogy so 100 years is not that long ago) many did not get education beyond that and there for became truly young adults at that age. Ah, good point. But i'm still looking for signs of satanic pagan cultists' influence, and your explanation doesn't rule that out *entirely*, as there's still the whole question of how elementary school schedules were determined... :suss:

The rating between PG (all ages admitted) and R (under 18 requires an accompanying adult) came about because of one of the Raiders of the Lost Ark movies, which wasn't violent enough for an R, and so got a PG, even though it had peoples' hearts being ripped out. All kinds of shit hit the fan because of it. As for why age 13... I guess the MPAA figured that by that age, kids know how to swear already so what's the harm in letting them into movies with swearing and shit. ;) --Mike-- "I'd rather you just give me a fish today, because even if you teach me how to fish, I won't do it. I thought it was a little older than that. here is a history reference: http://www.mpaa.org/movieratings/about/content2.htm "We are what we repeatedly do. excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." Aristotle

Over here kids finish primary school at 11...they then do 5 years of secondary school (leading to GCSE's), and potentially 2 years of A levels before packing off to Uni at 18-19. I graduated in 1989 at 23 after 4 years (I did a sandwich course, or I'd have finished a year earlier). At this point I think I'd better admit that I've no idea how the US education system is organised. ;) Anna :rose: "Be yourself - not what others think you should be"

Kindergarten, 6 years of primary, 2 years of "middle school" and 4 years of "high school". Does this relate to the system there? --------------------------------------------- The greenest grass is NOT on the other side of the fence, its the grass you take care of. Fair enough. :) The big difference I think is that UK schools don't generally have a "middle school". It's normally organised into infant (4-6? years), primary (7?-10 years), secondary (11-16 years), further (17-18 years) and then University. At the end of the day the details are unimportant, provided the system works well enough. Ours isn't bad, though it does suffer in some areas (for example the Unis are always having to fill-in gaps in new students' knowledge).
