After supposedly opposing the president’s health care bill, which would force Americans to buy private insurance, and giving Americans over the past year the impression that the battle was that of a populist president vs. big business, the insurance industry is suddenly embracing the new law and wants to get as many Americans enrolled as possible! The bill obviously feeds the insurance industry. That's because Obama couldn't table a sensible bill ( or perhaps he did, and was shouted down ). That's because of idiots like you. The government does not take care of me. It does provide opportunities for me to take part in programs that scale well to help take care of everyone. I pay for it, and I reap the benefits. Doctors here get paid. The only difference between Australia and the USA is that in the USA, big business is allowed to fleece people more openly. It's capitalism that is your issue.

No, if you can afford to buy the insurance (based upon your proximity to the poverty line) and you choose not to, the government will fine you for it.
