Labour are political party, not an ISP, and an ISP cannot guarantee your BB speed, what makes you think a load of middleaged and elderly, fat-cat, trough-snouting, technophobe, arseholes living in a mythical hinterland where they truly believe they are loved and respected, can possibly guarantee 2mbps?

Labour has stated in its manifesto that they intend to deliver 2 megabytes/sec broadband to all uk properties and this by 2012! woohoo thats a lot better than the 8 megabits/sec I get now (although with the taxes etc I probably wouldnt be able to afford a PC unless i was made redundant)

I think the purpose of the post was to point out that the government was trying to up the speed. Not control anything. But that's you, jumping to the conspiracy theory straight away.

Wow with the insult. My point still stands though. Where in the Digital Economy Act does it say that the government is going to lock down internet like China? You mean the part where they expect ISPs to block access to sites that repeatedly infringe copyright? That's not exactly censorship on the same level as the Chinese.

This is a red herring. Once the government takes over any aspect of the internet such as cabling, registrations, licensing, bandwidth regulations, or which sites they conciser racist, pornographic, or infringes on copyright you have effectively lost the internet.

You're aware that the entire thing started due to government projects right? Back when people were figuring computing was only ever going to be for major institutions. The US has had substantial control of the infrastructure and the bodies behind the expansion of it which it only recently lightened up on. They may not have filtered content themselves, but they sure could have if they had the urge.

I don't understand why we even bother to explain something to him, he's just not capable of having his own thoughts or ideas and he's just repeating whatever his god said or whatever he understand of the little he reads of something. He wants anarchy, wants to do whatever pleases him, or let others do whatever pleases them with no control at all, let us kill us for a piece of land or money or food, only the strongest must survive in this world, lets become animals and forget the compassion that is one thing that makes us different from the wild animals, if you can't afford health care then you must die, if you can't afford education, then it's ok to bring people from other countries (like myself) to do our job, people who get free education, who cares if destroys others companies that sell the same product and decides that now for power you're going to pay 10,000 every month or 1000 dollars for a can of beans, who needs regulations? who needs control? who needs laws? everything is a conspiracy of the government to control us and when you ask him facts he gives you random trash, calls you names and goes back to his world, he has never been able to support one, JUST ONE of his conspiracies with facts. I offered money for his meds if he seeks professional help, but there's now way I'll give the money in a paypal account, so he can go to a drug dealer.
I want to die like my grandfather- asleep, not like the passengers in his car, screaming!

I generally do it because if I can explain it well enough that it scares him off, I have something that may well make for interesting conversation and/or be able to shut up the average partisan idiot.
