UK elections?

A quick question regarding UK election. Though I am Indian residing in germany,I have alwyas been fascinated with democracy/election accross the world.I needed a few clarification with the process. 1) when do results start comming in? 2) If its a hung parliament, who gets a shot of forming the government 3) Can MP's switch parties after they have won the elections.

1: The estimate is that the first results should start coming in around 2245 with the rest trickling over night and throughout Friday (there will probably be some recounts as it will be close). 2: The incumbent fat bastard gets first dibs. 3: Yes.

Even if Labour party is in the third position(by number of seats one), will he get a chance!! This does not make sense

if there is no overall majority (no one party has > 50% of the seats) then the standing govenment has the right to try and for one

He gets the first chance to form a collation with one of the other parties to make up the majority. If that fails it then falls to the other parties

regarding number 3, here we vote for individuals not parties (however it does state to which party that indiviual is alligned) so MPs once elected they there as an individual this is something the libs wanted to change, they wanted a vote for a party and then they would decided who would fill the seat

Now that is rather screwy to me. I don't think I trust any group enough to assume they'd pick someone I'd actually want in office.
