Is Obama Crying About...

It is sad that large companies end up like this. Is it really just the anonymity (I am sure thats spelt wrong) of a large company that allows people to drop all morality? If that is the case, as my sig suggests, then really, laws need to be put in place where the decision makers of a company are held responsible for the companies actions. Of course they are also losing oil, and that has to cost. Mind you, why arent the local farmers barreling it up and selling it?
Morality is indistinguishable from social proscription

Accourding to reports the oil residue (as a lot of the best stuff is lost) is being captured by the locals - as they are being well payed (ie 5x thier previously monthy income PER DAY) by BP to skim the oil. The problem is that only a small proportion of the oil is on the surface, as born out by the fact that they are still revising the size of the spill. the rest of this is subsurface oil and as such is untouchable by current methods, once it hits the shore it becomes comtaminated and is pretty worthless. There seems to be huge diffferences in what is being said by both sides, Obiwon is say BP is tardy in its payments, yet reports from effective areas are saying that they are paying without investigating claims suffciently and this is causing huge fraud problems.
You cant outrun the world, but there is no harm in getting a head start

Here's a fun first comment on the article: You AGAIN failed to mention that the Nigerian government is the principal owner of ALL of the major upstream companies operating in Nigeria. They own 55% of Shell Nigeria, 60% of Agip, 60% of Mobil and 60% of Chevron. Why do you keep missing this key detail? Isn't it part of your job to inform your readers of such a key fact? You are a newsman, not a politician. Give your readers the information they deserve. Quick! To the Obama mobile, we must solve all of the worlds problems regardless of how uninvited or unrelated to any actual legal power we actually have they may be!
