There's plenty of media on it... Josh was talking about how BP was actually doing their best to keep reporters away from the spill. It was actually a genuine story, and the independent media started talking about it a bit before the New York Times[^] picked it up.

Well, I am not surprised that BP would be doing that. That's called damage control. Not saying I agree, but it does not surprise me.

Oh, their motivations are obvious, but it's still illegal... They've got some members of the Coast Guard and FAA helping them do so (Presumably because of a "Do whatever you can to assist BP" order), and they're trying to keep reporters from PUBLIC beaches and such... Basically, no one can blame them for trying to limit access to THEIR property, but we're talking public land and water. Fortunately, now that it's out, it'll raise a nice little scandal and get corrected. More bad publicity for BP, and well deserved... Not a huge deal.

I see all of that. My main complaint is that it was claimed the government was in cahoots. The government is nearly always more stupid than evil. I expect they told the Coast Guard to help any way they could, and the Coast Guard is following that literal order without questioning what they are asked to do.

100% agreed. That's my theory too.
