Shock horror - man without job has day off...
-
I know this is getting stale but I'm bemused by the outcry that Tony Hayward (he of BP) is generating simply because he had the temerity to take a day off. He is no longer responsible for day-to-day operations at BP and has handed over all responsibility for the oil spill (cos he's a bit of a PR car-crash). Enough already: the poor guy only earns a few million a year in his other job as a Mr Bean look-a-like: give him a break...

Why anyone would pay for this is beyond me.
If I have accidentally said something witty, smart, or correct, it is purely by mistake and I apologize for it.

Well, maybe you "little people" on that side of the pond want to cut him some slack to go play with his rich boy toys, on this side of the pond, we'd rather roast his nuts, if he had any.
Once you agree to clans, tribes, governments...you've opted for socialism. The rest is just details.

In my direct experience 'little people' here are identical to little people there and, indeed, anywhere. No doubt, though, that BP have no clue when it comes to PR.

It sounds like you're trying to find someone to blame, not someone to fix it up. How very myopic.

The little people was a reference to the fact that they were to concentrate on the people most effected the "common joe", the "man in the street" the "little people" as opposed to big business who usually get the first bike of the cake, yes it was badly put by a Swede using a second language. As for him playing with his toys, this guy has been thrown to the wolves and then had his responsiblity for the cleanup removed and had his main role in BP transfered to another, for all intensive purposes he is a loose end with nothing to do (unlike your Mr O who was enjoying 5 hours of golf at the time) ps the head of Transocean was also enjoyinbg a nice break - where are your threats against him? As for nuts, he stood up to hours of polictial verbals whilst transocean hid behind the law. I am begining to think that BP is doomed, not because of the spill (as transaocean seem to be doing ok, in fact so far are ahead after the insurance payout) but because they are seen as "not american" and therefore a risk free target to blaim
You cant outrun the world, but there is no harm in getting a head start

Oh, and heaven forbid what you'd be doing if Exxon had sullied your White Cliffs of Dover with a giant tarball. Get over it, your company fucked up in our waters, they should pay for it, and hopefully they will.

There's plenty of blame to go around, but he's the face of BP, he caused the problem, he's shown a total inability to solve the problem, and now you're going to whine because we'll gripe when he doesn't get his billion pound bonus.

When, on your side of the pond you give your Commander-in-Chief some slack then we might be playing by the same rules. If it is good enough for your Commander-in-Chief to take time out playing golf, it is good enough for the CEO of BP to take time out playing with yachts. The United States won't fall apart for those few hours he (POTUS) is away from the office neither will BP. Incidentally, I would much had preferred the CEO of BP to have the same level of respect for Congress that George Galloway had, after all, from this side of the pond, it looked as though your Congress was a lynching party in all but name.

You're displaying an incredible level of ignorance here: BP is a global company with far more US employees than any other and is 39% owned by US investors. There is, I agree, no excuse for the mess that both BP and its partners have caused (where's the vitriol for them?) but how does a witch hunt help? They have already agreed to pay and I would be surprised if they're not busting a gut to get everything back to normal. And, again, I don't see any of the wholly US partners getting sliced and diced by the blow-hards in Congress. Hayward endured an entire day of that crap: like to see how you would have coped with it. Besides, would it have been more acceptable for him to have spent a day off at home, tending his garden? What utter bullshit.

He didn't, personally, cause the problem and he can't, personally solve it either. Just how naive are you? He has been made the scape goat both by Obama and BP and whilst I shan't shed a tear for Mr Hayward, by focusing on him to the exclusion of a resolution is just plain ridiculous. And so what if he gets a bonus? That is a contractual obligation between him and BP - you appear to forget that they are a company, not a government dept. (Actually, I don't think he does deserve a bonus - no one at BP does).

I agree with that: as much as I hate the man (Galloway is a revolting character) he made them look like buffoons.

He stated that he, on behalf of BP, acknowledged responsibility for this disaster. He personally did not cause the disaster to happen. But, given time for the results of a full and proper investigation to occur, then you can point fingers, till then, you are "jumping the gun". However, solving the problem is hugely problematic as this has never been tried at that depth of water before. Perhaps you might like to suggest ways to solve this problem, but lets not make yourself look silly while doing so.

oh EXXON and other US oil companies have never spilt oil on other countries? or had people killed in rig accidents maybe you should read up on a few things - Torrey Canyon, Piper Alpha, Nigeria in fact as we speak EXXON are having to clean up a spill they have caused in the UK maybe we should drag the CEO of exxon in front of parliment and abuse him because that will surely help the clean up.
