Bias
-
Given the flood of posting by the Columbus retard the last few days, we're all again painfully aware of the extreme bias that comes from deliberate ignorance. I was watching a TV show last night, and it was like Cops ( they called it 'the real Cops' ) and it was dreadful. It was made in the UK and had footage of US cops, and the voice over was constantly mocking them for using excessive force, for not caring about their job ( in one clip, it was close to midnight on new years eve, so they kept saying the cop was trying to harrass people needlessly so he could get back to donuts at the precinct at midnight, for example ). Now, I'm sure Mr Unemployable will respond to this thread ( I intend to ignore him ), and fail totally to see that this sort of bias is no different to the crap he shovels at us every day. But, I wonder, how many people of at least average intelligence also fall for this sort of biased, ignorant, brain dead crap ? It made me pretty mad, I have to say. Idiots.

I enjoy picking it out of shows and/or other media outlets. Perhaps it's a symptom of my generation, but I pretty much expect to be lied to by any powerful source of information. I've spent most of my life learning to filter through the fox and npr to get to what is fairly close to the reality of something, and now I watch cops and some of those chase shows to amuse myself as the announcer goes over board with his claims, "They almost hit that person(who was never less than ten feet away from the vehicle and never in it's path)" being one of my personal favorites. Which is probably why the recent Arizona fiasco annoys me as much as it does, I don't really give two shits what it does to the illegals, I'm thinking about the legal citizens who will be harassed and the cops who will be forced to harass them or face lawsuits from the community. The average American doesn't carry papers that would confirm that they're in fact American, and given no one wants to let the feds issue identification cards they never will. But what you hear is a bunch of evil conservatives are trying to murder illegals, or how all those liberal wusses won't stand up for their nation against invasion. No body bothers to mention that the law is poorly formed and pointed at the wrong fucking target.

Well, the media in the US especially seems very good at that, get people upset over the wrong things, so that everyone can be polarised without understanding the issues. I met a guy who works for Fox. I asked him if they bother to film stuff, or just get actors for the stories they want to tell, he said they make sure when they are filming they are always filming standing on the far right of the subject being filmed. Funny guy.

Tv gives you a completely wrong idea of how things really go. They only show the few incidents that are 'Good TV', I mean who would want to see a cop just driving around all day saying hi to people. I used to have this crazy idea (years ago) about NY being completely dangerous and if you would walk there without a gun or 5 body guards you'd end up dead in 5 min (k I exaggerate a bit but you get the point). Then I went to find out for myself and must say it's a nice city. I tend to take whatever is on tv with a ocean of salt these days :)

Morality is indistinguishable from social proscription

Did you ask him about their tag line "Fair and Balanced". What a crock that is.
That's called seagull management (or sometimes pigeon management)... Fly in, flap your arms and squawk a lot, crap all over everything and fly out again... by _Damian S_

Well, he obviously agreed, so I didn't push him too hard, we just had a laugh.
