Is that any more barbaric then torturing people to death with a taser? We do it all the time here in the US.

Yes, it is. Or at least I'd rather flop around like a fish for a while and croak rather than be pelted and have bones broken until something finally ruptures or some gets a good shot in on my head and causes a nice slow death by brain hemorrhage. I'll take a stopped heart over a bloody beaten one any day thanks, if those were my options. And least I was aware, we weren't torturing people with tasers, we were using it as an option other than shooting them. I'm unaware of any courts issuing the penalty of 'tasered up the ass until dead' over here.

Well that's the official line. But that is clearly not the case. Traffic stops, noise complaints, rabunctious wedding receptions. Against the young, the old, and the infirm. And no threats to the life of the police or the public.

That's mostly true, but that is not a defense of the police so much as a criticism of the courts - and our (as citizens) authoritarian streak that allows such abuses done in our name. In what is being heralded as a landmark decision, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit recently declared that police officers could be held liable for using a Taser without proper cause.[^]

Yeah, I figured that was the case, but with some of the people around here I couldn't be sure.

Like the 100 milion$ or so Palestine gets off the US and the EU. For what? Just so the rpciks can burn effigies of us? Fuck em. Oh, and lets get off oil too. That way the rest of the regions goes back to the middle ages too.

You are Arthur Scargill, and I claim my £5! Seriously, how quickly can we do that? It would require a massive change to our infrastructure. You are in danger of sounding as impractical as the AGW crowd.

But why should we be nice to them or smack them in the mouth? Afghanistan is nothing to do with us. A quick special op to get Osama: fine. Having failed to find him, we could have let the serial civil wars proceed, recognising each de facto government in turn, but supporting none of them. Silly me, geostrategic considerations, poor old USA must keep a foothold in Eurasia and secure their resources.

Guess which country's president has a drug dealing brother (allegedly :) ). Originally the Taliban permitted poppy growing because opium was consumed abroad by the infidel. Then it changed its mind (to gain kudos with the international community) and there were no poppy fields in Taliban controlled areas in 2001. The poppy fields got back into full swing following the fall of the Taliban. The Taliban once again permitted the growing of poppies, in order to finance the insurgency. BTW: When I were a lad, heroin (and other drug) addicts went to their GP for their fix, and their prescriptions were dispensed at Boots and Timothy Whites. Guess what? No pushers, no dealers, no needles in parks, no criminalization of druggies. The cost? Minimal - heroin and cocaine are dirt cheap without the street mark-up. Then we joined the USA's 'War on Drugs'.

OK, I am not suggesting we stop using oil completely, but that we stop buying it from politically/socially backwards regimes. To feed them money merely gives them a greater chance to continue their outdated behaviour because it doesnt put pressure on them to adapt and modernise. Do you think that without oil money Iran would be able to sabre rattle? As for alternatives geothermal. If I was the boss of Iceland I would put up a shit load of geothermal power stations and run big fat cables into europe and make a killing supplying cheap electric. How? 90% of a power station is the same regardless of the heat source. Once you have steam, you have it sorted. Lava, coal, nuclear, all they do is create steam. The turbine and generator are kids play. But, when has man ever seen sense... Even us.

Oh come on just because somoe dude on PCP got a load of hits with a taser! He probably didnt even die, and if he did its because his heart was so weakened by years of drug abuse! No, these people are sick. Really seriously sick. I dont agree with the death penalty, its a copout. Its a sign of an immature state. And immature people. But doing it by stoning rather than lethal injection is even more barbaric.
