On Q&A answers that aren't
-
My unfamiliarity with the Q&A section has led me to this pondering which might be cleared up if I just wait long enough: When a response has been proposed to your question, the page shows you a big button you can click to "Accept This Answer". That's a nice way to acknowledge that your question was indeed answered. But what if the proposed answer is actually not the answer? Does this button eventually go away or does it hang around forever, leaving other readers wondering if the answer was right, wrong, or ignored? Is there a shortcut way to mark the response with an indication of "Thanks, but that doesn't solve the problem"? (I believe the Comment option could be appropriate for that, but I nearly missed seeing it altogether, and the Accept button remains even after adding such a comment.)

Interesting. One option is to have it so that if you've voted or accepted then the button never shows. However, what if you hit the button accidentally? Or hit it, then read a subsequent answer, and realise the previous answer was actually wrong? For this the button will always need to be visible

An unanswer button or unnotanswer? IMO, there can be more than one correct answer so the current situation works OK I think.
