LOCAL CANDIDATE ONLY!

I am so sick of this shit. During my search for a job in U.S. this is all you see at the end of the job description. I can't believe these people, I mean I would pay for my own relocation, I just want an equal shot at the job. I am trying to relocate, from one state to another, but it is nearly impossible with the above and the poor economy. anyone else noticing this?

There must be some logic behind it. Otherwise you wouldn't be wanting to work for idiots would you. I'd telephone up, sounding all officious to find out what their reason was. Maybe they have some local stupid employment law ? Or maybe they have applicants who claim they can tele-commute ? What is local anyway, 10 miles away, 20 miles away, 100, 500 ?? We had the same problem when we moved to the UK. We were staying with my Dad, in an area we didn't want to work in. I applied anyway, and phoned after emailing my cv in to explain that we were waiting to get our own place, as we wanted to move as close to work as possible. As soon as they understood that we wanted to get a job first so we could move as close to it as possible they became more reasonable.

Are you sure they aren't meaning "US only people"? Cheers, Simon "VB.NET ... the STD of choice", me, internal company memo

I've been trying for a long while to get a job back in my old home area (Oklahoma, North Texas/Dallas ) and almost all the good jobs are listed as "Local candidates only". Hell, I lived most of my life in that area but since I don't currently live there, I'm black balled. I too would happily pay for my own expenses as I visit the area several times a year anyway. I think the reason is one of loyalty to local candidates who have been out of work a while. Areas that have had a lot of lay offs tend to give preferential treatment to those who already live there and are out of work. That's the only sense I can make of it. It bites that Windows is doing the painting of it and so you cannot touch it without complex workarounds. Seems daft.

Funny, I have the exact opposite problem. I live in North Dallas and absolutely hate it. I am trying my hardest to get out of the area. You wouldn't happen to be living in Portland or San Diego at the moment? If you are I'd gladly swap with you. We'd just have to convince our employers. ps The job market here is terrible. Actually, at the moment, I live in Indiana and work in Tennessee! I'm going to try to get my family moved down here next summer. Dallas itself is an armpit, I hate the place. But I love that general area, being raised in Southwestern Oklahoma and all. I have a lot of friends and family in the region. As far as the job market goes, it's no worse in Dallas then anywhere else. Try finding work in Indiana X| What kind of work are you doing? Tennessee!!!!!!! Spent an summer internship there....I'll stick to texAss, thank you ver much. Actualuy, my family is from Choctaw OK, but I prefer the West/North West. The *chough* company I am with now is a B2B company that handles data-warehousing and transactions for utilites. It sucks. Fill me with your knowledge, your wisdom, your coffee.
