NOAA 16 AVHRR Subsystem Summary[^] "10/06/2005 AVHRR scan motor current spiking and causing intermittent imagery bar codes again..This is a chronic problem with this payload." ('bar codes' is what they call the data produced by a bad sensor) "09/29/2005 16:00:00 SCAN MOTOR N16 AVHRR downgraded to RED status because of elevated scan motor currents and persistent bar coded imagery. " And so on back to 2001. So, just how long has this thing been producing crap data that hasnt been filtered out and has been used in data sets to tell us the world is warming. Warming, that does not exist in the raw temperature data: http://www.john-daly.com/stations/stations.htm[^] (I verrified the central England data set from this site against that held by the Met Office).
