Dumb Things Americans Believe

Obama is the 44th President, but only the 43rd man. (That is if you don't count the Presidents before Washington: Peyton Randolph (Twice) Henry Middleton John Hancock Henry Laurens John Jay Samuel Huntington Thomas McKean John Hanson Elias Boudinot Thomas Mifflin Richard Henry Lee John Hancock (Again) Nathaniel Gorham Arthur St. Clair Cyrus Griffin

Well I don't think counting presidents is important as knowing where in the world we're having our military actions take place or what the branches of government are. I'm not sure where I got 46 from then. But I stand corrected.

I agree on that one, but basic geography and some of the other stuff is really dumb. I can name more than 2 supreme court justices just not spell them correctly maybe. Kennedy, Sotamayer, Scalia, Thomas, Renquest, and the latest one. I can picture them, all I think but not necessarily name them all. The 3 branches of government aspect bothers me though.

Well, geography... I can point out Iraq and Iran easily enough... Afghanistan, well, as long as I could see the borders, I could identify it... Couldn't name the countries around it, except for Pakistan... *looks for a regional map without names* Yep, Afghanistan is pretty easy to find... As for the government... Anyone living here, who can't identify the three branches of government, needs to go back to school. Even if they got the names wrong, saying "the president, congress, and the supreme court" would be close enough.
Proud to have finally moved to the A-Ark. Which one are you in?

Man is that biased journalism or just bad journalism? The underlying question is good the explanation is the questionable part. Could they not give the facts without opinion stated as fact?

Bad! Suggesting that because people cannot name any Supreme Court judges is somehow connected to dumb things they believe is just ridiculous. How many Britons here could name one of our High Court (or Supreme Court) judges, or all the kings and queens in order. I also noticed that all these polls were run independently and at different times so there is almost no relationship between the results. Just space fillers really.
It's time for a new signature.

I was just trying to make you feel good by being totally pedantic. :)

I could probably name the Kings and Queens in order, but I don't think I could name a High Court Judge.

You guys have it easy... The Kings and Queens rule for decades (Usually), and they're all Henry and Elizabeth with a roman numeral... We change the channel every 4 or 8 years, and we don't repeat names... Err... Except for Bush... And Adams... Ok, we do it now and then.

See? That means we've had about 10-15 presidents since she took the throne (Too lazy to look it up). That's a lot to memorize... Now, if you were going to memorize your PMs... That'd be a little closer...

Notice that I did say "The underlying question is good the explanation is the questionable part." See my reply earlier. I could not name one justice since William Rehnquist in 2005! (Bad memory at best) Maybe Thomas possibly Ginsburg and I might remember others if you said the name but nope. Old movie joke is that you can tell the spy by asking them to name... If they do they are a spy.

no prob. Just explaining that it's an opinion piece. I think the journalist was a bit peeved that people don't know basic things about their own country. I can believe it when it comes to the 3 branches of government. That's where people get the idea that the president spends our money instead of Congress and that judges make laws and not congress. ;P I am ranting now. :omg: imagine that. :)

By the way the SC has started to make laws. The constitution is now being tested by all three branches. -- At least that's what the right says. :)

This article is bunk. Mixing real politics in with ghosts and ancient beliefs. It is too late to make people ignore the fact that obama is a hardcore muslim and that the healthcare bill is nothing but extreme rationing and government control over healthcare. The government will decide what treatments you are allowed to get. Doctors will NOT be permitted to give treatments that the government does not approve.

This will be pretty easy in Bulgaria; we name them after flavors and qualities: Shit I, Scum Bag II, Crap III, Thief IV etc…
