I was trying to search a question using the search box below the CodeProject banner in Q&A forum. The result list was huge and by default sorted according to vote (high votes first). I wanted the recent posts first so clicked the 'New' tab. But the filter was gone. I also tried playing with the URL (adding tab=new query-string to the searched url) but without any success. Is the option not at all available or I missed something?

No that option isn't available yet on the QA list page. Though you can do this at the general search page here[^].
