I have a wonderful story about him. When they were discussing what should go on the Gold Disc on the Voyagers the subject of classical music came up. Sagan agreed that it would be an excellent addition, but when JS Bach was suggested, Sagan objected claiming that "That would just be showing off!" :)

It is to my very great regret that I had the opportunity to meet Dr. Sagan in 1989, but couldn't due to ill health.

That is too bad. I'm reading some of his works and wondered what others might have taken from them.

He probably really rose to prominence with his mini series on PBS, Cosmos[^], in 1980. He did I lot to popularize science for which his colleagues didn't always receive well. I've read a few of his books, too. "Broca's Brain" and "Dragons of Eden" were interesting. "Demon Haunted World" was too much like preaching to the choir for me. His attempt at science fiction, "Contact", wasn't all that interesting to me although Hollywood bought it. It always amazed me listening to him speak that he was born and grew up in Brooklyn, NY.
Once you agree to clans, tribes, governments...you've opted for socialism. The rest is just details.

Well worth the time: an excellent author who expounds his ideas fluently.
