Yes. Old name for Japan is Nippon. Japs are also known as Nips. It is all quite easy when you have the knowledge of such things.

Another sad fact is that Japan has the worlds largest zipper manufacture in YKK, so your comment could be true on two fronts...
Interesting fact number 94. YKK does not stand for anything, it is a mnemononym* for Waikeikei, the name of the company! *I am aware this is not a real word, but one I have invented. I think we should start using this word to see if we can make it a real word. Mnemononym - intangible noun - "Other name given to remind one of the actual name"
