I am not going to register or sign up to every website in order to use them. The amount of web sites that want you to "sign up" in order to download or read articles or what-hav-ya is growing and growing, and i am not going to hastle myself with having to log on to all of them over and over again or be bothered to remember passwords. Dont bother mentioning the cookies that keep you logged in,i ,and i am sure other too, clear my cookies every now and again and boom, all that stuff is lost. I can understand signing up to chat, what with people wanting to preserve thier profile for prosperity and defend against imposters and spammers and all that.HAving to signup here to download the sample projects is the end of it for me.THanks for the articles and all that, but the sample projects are what i come here for. Durn shame too,as this was a good place.

I agree with your comprehensive description of web sites out there. Why require a username and password just to download files or browse articles? Is there a point besides trying to send out more spam to my email box? Or have someone track my Internet usage... hrmmm..? However, I disagree with the usefulness of Code Project. This web site is one of the very few that I faithfully visit once a day. Sometimes I even visit more then once a day! The articles are sometimes helpful and I love reading/participating in the forums once in a while. If you liked downloading the sample projects, which, in my opinion, is one of the most useful aspects of the site, then registering to download them shouldn't be too difficult. I still haven't found a site for developers that offers excellent source code and help to in ways of the articles and forums. And to help keep it a "good place", I think registering also is a good way to support the maintainers of the site. At least, they get to find out who is using their site.

I understand your frustration - i also avoid sites that make me log in to access content, and in all honesty doubt that many people think the current change to CodeProject is an improvement. But, sadly, it was deemed necessary, as some selfish, thoughtless people were abusing anonymous downloads. The administrators of this site fought with this problem for many months prior to implementing this restriction, but in the end all their efforts weren't effective enough, and they were forced to this drastic solution. As a frequent user of CP, i know as much as anyone the annoyance that comes when the servers are too bogged down to provide pages in a reasonable amount of time. This may not be an ideal, but if it works then it is good. Hopefully, this restriction can someday be lifted, but in the meantime CP provides a quick registration process (no "we'll send you an email with your password when we get around to it, and then you can continue"). My advice is to stick with it - this is still an incredibly small price to pay for all CP provides. :) Shog9 ------

Well, I just signed up today to download a couple of projects, and I have some observations. I don't mind having to register to download. What I mind is: 1. Unable to interact properly using Mozilla. (Yes, I have the MSIE compatable setting in place). 2. Horrendous message board layout and preference settings. 3. Unusable download setup. I had to use MSIE to get any downloads at all to work, and on both projects I downloaded I had to restart each download at LEAST 10 TIMES to get it to complete. The d/l just hangs for no reason. Over 90% of the time is unacceptable. 4. The idiocy of 2 email addresses. 1 for "login" and 1 for "newsletter", and the descriptions pertaining to each are even more confusing. 5. Inability to get the forums to display more than 25 items per page. 6. Horrible search function on the forums. A shame because the articles and projects submitted are top-notch by top-notch people. I can't deal with the rest. The implementation details on this site are awful. Period. Having said all that, I'll be surprised if, after I fill in my name and email before submitting this, the submission actually goes through. Feh.

                  1. seems self-explanatory. The site was designed for MS developers, and IE is the norm here. We do have a few Mozilla users and they seem to do alright; there might even be a few of the 437 remaining Netscape users among the membership. 2,3,and 5 - see 1. 4. A great many of our members access CP at work, but would rather not have the newsletter sent there. The dual email address allows the user to handle that problem. Unless something's changed since I signed up there's no requirement for them to be different - mine aren't. 6. Really? I've had no trouble with it at all, and it's far better than the Technet or MSDN search engines. Do you have the latest version of Mozilla? I've heard great things about it from users here on CP.:-D "My child was Inmate of the Month at Mohave County Jail" - Bumper Sticker in Bullhead City, AZ

I'm using Mozilla 1.1 at home with ZERO problems and IE at work both and have for quit some time now. I have down loaded samples, printed articles, printed and responded in forums, everything and haven't had a bit of trouble. I visit this site daily and find it extremely helpful. BTW, I am also displaying 50 messages per page in the forums. Mozilla for me is used just to be different. Still need to use IE for many things including auto updates. I strongly agree. The Code Project was great site until they introduced this logging system. Not only my e-mail could be abused by spammers but also my personal information could be abused. I don't understand the purpose of signing up ?!
