So Mattel has decided to put a video camera in Barbie. Why? I don't know. But they did so those of us with young daughters have to deal with it. She has a small video camera in her necklace that can record 30 minutes of video and play it on a screen on her backpack. Anyway, "In a written statement, the FBI said that 'the alert's intent was to ensure law enforcement agencies were aware that the doll — like any other video-capable equipment — could contain evidence and to not disregard such as item during a search.'" The alert was accidentally given to some media outlets. Here's the new headline: FBI: Barbie video cam could be used to make child porn [^]. Totally taking the alert out of context and blowing it way out of proportion. I'm surprised they haven't said that about the kinect yet. These are the people we rely on to give us information about what's going on in the world? :wtf:

This just in... Pencils can be used to draw lewd pictures of children! We must ban all pencils! And eyes! Eyes can be used to capture video even in located where recording devices are expressly prohibited! These must be part of the terrorist agenda! And what about hands? Did you know nearly every murder in history was made possible by hands? We must ban these horrible instruments of destruction! Remember... In the land of the blind paraplegics, the one-eyed... err, the one-handed... nah... Eh, I can't make that joke fit this early in the morning.

Totally agreed, man... This is the most idiotic news story I've seen in a while. It's a bloody toy with a digital camera in it... Big deal. My cell phone has a camera in it. I could buy a watch with a camera in it. I could even buy a pair of sunglasses with a camera in them. Not everything is about kiddie porn.

Wow, a camera can be used to record something. As far as I know, the only general-purpose camera you can't use to make child porn is a broken one.

Talk about blowing things out of proportion to garner a headline... I coach my son's hockey team and I totally understand and support and strictly enforce the "no cameras or cell phones in the dressing room" rules and some people think I'm out in right field on that one, but this... this is just plain silly!!! (I'm considering today "family friendly post day" for me)

Wow. How much more scare-mongering than the FBI's own: Barbie "Video Girl" a Possible Child Pornography Method. [PDF][^] (Note how the FBI perverts have subjected her to the full TSA x-ray scan - you can see everything! :omg: ) Now if you want sheer perversion of the story, try TechCrunch's reviewer Paul Carr[^], that's "blowing it way out of proportion".

Most of what the media come up with is total BS anyway, so I don't read any newspapers and only occasionaly watch the news.

Careful with that "5"... You could be busted for generating images of numerals under 18. Ahh! We need to ban all numbers! And what about Roman numerals? The letters "I", "V", and "X" must be banned too! Err, uh oh... My name starts with "I", and my handle starts with "X"...

The alert was accidentally given to some media outlets. Here's the new headline: FBI: Barbie video cam could be used to make child porn [^]. Totally taking the alert out of context and blowing it way out of proportion. I'm surprised they haven't said that about the kinect yet. These are the people we rely on to give us information about what's going on in the world? :wtf:

Sure, look how they reacted to GW.

"It is a remarkable fact that despite the worldwide expenditure of perhaps US$50 billion since 1990, and the efforts of tens of thousands of scientists worldwide, no human climate signal has yet been detected that is distinct from natural variation." Hopefully the media doesn't get a hold of your post or we'll all end up in straight jackets and facemasks. I don't know how it would unless it got leaked on the internet. What's the "http://www.codeproj...", oh no, it's happened. We're doomed. Thanks for the laugh. I needed that today.
