I Hate Ice!

We had an ice storm yesterday in SouthEast US, and 660,000+ lost power!! Of course one of them was me. At around 4:30EST yesterday afternoon, I was happily surfing pr0n err.... catching up on the news , when the monitor went blank, my lights flickered. Once.. Twice.. darkness and silence. Dammit! I woke up this morning my apartment was a pleasant 50 degrees F. (about 10/11 Cel. I think) and still no power. They said it could take a few days. Thankfully, work had power, so I could get some coffee and heat and CP. :) BW "I'm coming with you! I got you fired, it's the least I can do. Don't you think just some liquid that was umm launched when you were catching up with barely legal tthe news, just caused a short circuit, and the tooth fairy fixed it overnite? btw. I'm an "open window sleeper", so at this time of year I always have <10°C in my room in the morning. so don't complain! ;)

Perhaps, but the tooth fairy didn't do a very good job, because it still doesn't work. :| BW "I'm coming with you! I got you fired, it's the least I can do. Just curious brian, how often does this happen? The wifey and I are considering re-location to the NE and the recuiters she and I have spoke with underplayed this when I asked? I've just got to get the hell out of texass. Fill me with your knowledge, your wisdom, your coffee.

Well, I live in SC, so it isn't frequent, maybe one good storm per year, if that. If you're looking for New england, though its a bit more often. I know NorthWest CT had an ice storm a few weeks ago. Generally, closer to the coast (ie. southern CT/RI, probably Cape Cod too) will have less snow and a more sleet and rain, whereas VT/NH are snowier. I used to live in CT(10 yrs ago) I remember driving around on ice and snow maybe a few weeks throughout the winter. They were usually pretty good about clearing the streets quickly enough. Its certainly worth considering, especially if you hate the cold, but you do get used to it, just like you get used to the summer heat in the south, just a different problem. BW "I'm coming with you! Aah, how lucky you are, I arrived in this hill station [^]yesterday, just to enjoy eid holidays and "snow". But no snow yet arrived:( though temperature is -11. Me anxiously waiting for some snow. Wow! That looks fantastic!:-D Hope you get some better luck with your wish for snow. I would not have minded snow. Actually the ice hanging from the trees has its own appeal, especially in full sunlight! The power failure is the big inconvenience though.:( If I'm lucky I'll be back to normal tonight. Come to western europe - even we don't get ice storms and our weathers usually pretty shit this time of year unless you head south. :-D

in my experience (26 years worth), power outages due to ice are rare in the north-east. maybe they use stronger power lines, or maybe there's more redundancy. whatever the reason, it's rare. and, they know how to plow and salt a road up there, so it's rare to be stuck in your house for too long. -c
